So I need someone here to walk me through this process because Ebay customer service did not help me very much. I ordered an item valued at $439.99. The seller did not ship the item with a delivery signature request. FedEx delivered the package while I was not home, and it sat on my door step for who knows how long. I didn't return until 3 days later and the box wasn't there. So somebody stole the box some time between the delivery date and my return. I filed a claim with E-bay and they immediately closed the case against me and I get no refund. I called them with an appeal and I apparently have to fill out these forms and upload them, But they didn't tell me exactly what forms to complete. I got an E-mail with 3 different links, (High Value Claims, Appeals, and Escalations). All 3 links take me to the same page and it's just a blank box to type stuff in. Then the representative said I need to complete an Internet Crime Form, but I have no idea what that has to do with this.
I then filed a Claim with FedEx, but according to them, any refunds involving missing packages must go through the shipper, and then the shipper has to refund me themselves.
I just want to know who is responsible for this and who I get a refund from. I am not losing $400 because a negligent Ebay seller doesn't put signature confirmations on his items.

@tofu107 wrote:I really think the buyer should contact Fed Exp and told them he did not get his package or get the seller to intervene, why should the seller not intervene?
why?Because he could lose a chargeback and get hit with $20 fee, thats why.
If the policy still hold,Fed exp does not offer insurance, but indemnity,$100 for non jewelry and $1000 for jewelry.
@tofu107 I am curious why you, an active seller who accepts PayPal, has not read the PayPal seller protection policy? The seller will NOT lose the chargeback and have to pay a $20 fee. The seller is covered by seller protection because they have proof of delivery. So what you said is false information.
Also, All FedEx shipments include $100 insurance for LOSS or DAMAGE.
It is against board rules to post patently false information just so you know.

The seller doesn't have to provide signature delivery confirmation unless it exceeds $750.

Proof of delivery means:
I'm sorry your item was stolen after delivery. If you have home owner's insurance it might be covered under your policy.

- Why should the seller help recover something from FedEx if the package shows as delivered?
- Again, why would the seller be obligated to work with FedEx?
[If] the buyer needs another, where are they buying the next one?
As a matter of fact, the Buyer does need another one!
And as a matter of fact, the Buyer is NOT gonna be buying it from eBay.
An unattended package sitting on a doorstep for 3 days in
a badany neighborhood, is just begging for this to happen.
FTFY.

@leftnotselling wrote:Last i know it was 250 bucks and over needed sig for paypal. I would call pay pal. If that is how you paied. If with a credit card do a charge back.
That policy changed several years ago.
Also the buyer will will will lose a credit car chargeback because the seller can prove it was delivered to the address on record.
The buyer will win. The seller will be covered by PayPal seller protection.
This. ^^^
however I would advise the op to be more proactive in this situation in the future in order to prevent the need to file such. Keep an eye on the tracking if it shows delivered when you aren't home have someone be available to help retrieve the item for you. Or If you know you'll be gone ask the seller for signature confirmation and let them know you'll pay the extra cost for such as This added cost is for YOUR protection.

I did not "Let" the package sit on my porch. I was not home during delivery. I cannot decide when the driver shows up. It was delivered way earlier than tracking suggested. Without a signature, there is no proof that the box was even at my door. USPS takes photographs of the delivery location, FedEx does not. The only proof of delivery is the driver's word.
That's all the proof eBay needs. You LET it sit there because you didn't do the due diligence to protect yourself in this situation such as keeping an on eye on the tracking to see if it was delivered while you weren't home.

Anyone have any experience with this same scenario--a package was scanned as delivered, but you were gone for three days, and it was missing when you got home?
Happened to a friend of mine, and the company said to take it up with the post office since tracking showed it was delivered. No retailer is going to just up and refund or send a replacement if the item has been delivered-- can you imagine how many people would lie in an attempt to get free stuff?
Exactly. What an epidemic of delivered packages that were never received that would be!
Hey! I have new information. Well, a new anecdote, anyway. Just spent the afternoon with a friend of mine who told the me she had ordered something from an online retailer. She was at work when the package arrived, and by the time she got home, it was gone. The online retailer refunded her 100% of her cost--the item plus shipping. Interesting, eh?

Was it in the $400 dollar range like the OP?

No. Most definitely not. It might've been a $40 item, but she desired it the other $360 worth, so the total of her cost plus her desire was $400. (Does that count?)

Well, tell her that, because she couldn't shut up about it all afternoon. That's where I came up with the $360 figure. LOL!

Amazon purchase?

No, it wasn't. Sorry, but according to the eBay Community "Rules of Engagement," I can't name which online retailer it was.
