Seller Making Excuses for Not Shipping/Printed Shipping Lable Which May be a Delay Tactic

I made a purchase from a seller who printed a shipping label to make me think the package was shipped, after two days I checked the tracking number with USPS and they show a label was created but the package not shipped, I contacted the seller and low and behold, they were sick and promised to ship this morning, but I checked USPS again today, and still the package has not shipped.  I tried and tried to connect with someone at ebay, and got stuck on a loop, so I am reaching out to see if someone can get me in touch with human beings who work for ebay to step in and see what is going on, or refund my money.  I want to trust the seller but I am not stupid either.  Anyone's help is much appreciated.  Thanks

You need to wait for the expected time for the package to be delivered to pass.

If you don't get your item, then file an Item Not Received claim (INR).  The seller will have 4 days to respond to that.  If they fail to take care of you to your satisfaction, you can ask ebay to step in.

Just be patient until the expected delivery date shown has passed.  The following day you can open a case with ebay.  There are no provisions for you to do that until then.  USPS tracking is all over the map, and has been since the holidays... I've had packages track 1000 miles minutes after the origin scan.  No reason to panic just yet.

@lcqb7346,

Before we can offer you any real help, we need to know a few things, and there are some things you need to know about ebay.

1) Did you buy the item as a guest, before you created this account a few days ago?

2) Where is the item being shipped from, the item location should be in the listing page you bought the item from.

3) What is the last estimated delivery date for the item.  That information would be in the Order Confirmed email you would have received if you bought as a guest.  If you bought from this account it can be found in your My eBay purchase history, by clicking on the Order details button.

We would also need to know some info about the seller, specifically if they had ever sold anything before or in the last year.  You can look that up or post the 12 digit item number found just above the item specifics box on the right. copy and paste that in  a reply to this topic.

  To find the seller's feedback profile page, which you should check before buying from any seller on ebay.  if you bought the item after signing up to use ebay. Go to your purchase history and click on the item title. That will open the listing page you bought from. Just below the item title will be the seller's username and to its right will be a number in (  ) which is how many feedback they have received. Yours is currently (0)  just below is their feedback percentage.

If you scroll down to near the bottom of the page you will see the seller's username in a large font. Below that will be a few feedback comments, and below them a oval with See all feedback in it.  Click on that button. Which will take you to the sellers feedback profile page.

On that page, it will say what country the seller is registered in, and also when they registered.   Below that will be a box with the numbers of the 3 types of feedback a seller can receive. If the seller has any neutral or negative feedback you can click on those numbers to read only those comments. Just under the box there are tabs for received feedback.

  Click on the As a Seller tab.  What you want to look for is to see if they have received any feedback for selling. If they have none, or have not received any in over a year. Then it is very likely that the reason the seller has not shipped your item because of a 21 - 30 day hold ebay places on all new or returning sellers first few payments, and they likely do not know about the hold or how to deal with it. On their account your payment status would show Pending, so they may not ship, thinking that the payment has not cleared yet.

If you see that they have not sold before or in over a year let us know that, so we can tell you what to do. You cannot name a seller on these boards but you can post the item number or tell us what you find on their profile page.

In the listing, you saw an estimated delivery date for your purchase.  Evidently that date was satisfactory for you, or else you would not have made the purchase, right?

At this point, that date is the only date that matters.  The seller is NOT required to ship immediately.  He IS required to ship so that you receive your item before, on or just after that EDD.

If that doesn't happen, you can use the Money Back Guarantee for buyers to be made whole.  May I respectfully suggest that you read it?

Sellers are not obligated to ship anything the moment they print a label, thats now things work here. Sellers are obligated to ship within their handling times, and those handling times are stated in the listings, at least for buy it now items anyway.

Likewise, ebay automatically marks items as shipped the moment sellers print a label.

There is no reason to be concerned, ebay has a money back guarantee should you not receive your order. I have had instances where sellers were MIA. You just wait until the estimated delivery date passes and file an item not received claim, your money gets returned, problem solved.

Also, you could exercise some patience given your seller stated they were sick. We are all only human.

Thank you, I have read it, the problem is the seller made one excuse for not shipping, promised to ship yesterday morning, and did not ship.  So I contacted the seller, and again another excuse.  It is the excuses for not shipping after setting expectations to ship that have me concerned.

@lcqb7346,

In your reply to soh.mary you wrote:

If you checked out the info you should look for in my earlier reply, and find that the seller has not sold before or in over a year. Because of the hold new/returning sellers often make up excuses for not shipping, because they do not think they have received the funds yet. Some go so far as to cancel sales after a few days.

Agree, with you 100%, it's not the fact the item has not been shipped yet, it is the setting of expectations that have not been met by the shipper that has me concerned.  I get it that there may be a legitimate issue with shipping, no worries, what bothers me someone who sets an expectation, then breaks that expectation with another excuse, I would rather the expectation not be set in the first place, then an expectation being set followed by another excuse, etc.

Thanks for reaching out, much appreciated.

The item has not shipped as of today, 6 days after I placed the order, the shipper made multiple excuses for not shipping, and then has not responded to any more of my requests for an update.  It is clear I am being ripped off, ebay makes it impossible to simply contact them as I am in a loop of their automated system telling me the order is on it's way when if fact it has not shipped according the seller who keeps making excuses, plus the USPS when I check the tracking number.  How can I contact a human being at ebay, rather than their AI robo system which keeps you in a loop to nowhere?

This is the first and last time I will ever buy anything from ebay, and I will make sure my family and friends never shop on ebay again.  I appreciate your help.

Forgive me for asking if you've already answered this question, but what is the actual last estimated delivery date seen in the listing where you made your purchase?

There is no need to contact eBay. They don't look at messages. The only thing eBay cares about is getting the item by the delivery date.

if you don't receive it by the latest expected delivery date you may let eBay know you paid and haven'treceived the item yet. The seller will have 3 days to provide a tracking number that shows delivered, or a refund. If they don't  then on the 4th day you can ask eBay to step in and they'll  refund your money.

Stop trying to contact eBay or the seller. There is nothing useful that you can learn from either of those.

You need to look at your purchase history, and find the latest estimated delivery date. On the day after that date, if the package has still not arrived, you can file a claim for "Item not received."  This is done without calling or messaging eBay, just file the claim.  Here's a link to eBay's buyer protection  policy, which they call the "Money Back Guarantee":
