I just bought an item on eBay, and paid for it. While I was out, the seller eMailed me asking for more money because the shipping was more than they put in the listing. They ended up shipping it anyway but are still asking me to send them more money or else "they lose money on this deal". Keep in mind this was an auction and it sat online for over a week and they never changed the shipping charge. They had $50 set on the auction which i paid for the shipping, and after mailing the item, they want me to send them an additional $80 for shipping now and showed receipt for proof (they spent $30 alone for a pack and ship service and then an additional $96 to ship it for a 14 pound box). What should I do? Just ignore them? I have no idea why they are asking for more money, but then shipped it anyway and then demand I pay for it when they already paid on top of me paying what was the honest auction value? I think this is a scam. Also is against eBay rules as well?

Tell seller 'tough cookies'.
That is a sellers responsibility to actually figure out the size/weight of an item and CORRECTLY choose HOW they are shipping it.
It is NOT your responsibility to do ANY of that figuring.

I would tell them they need to learn how to pack their own items.... what shipping service and where was it going for $80?? 14 pounds should not cost that much it a lower 48 address.

Just ignore them. I don't think it's necessarily a scam, probably just an inexperienced seller. And yes, it's against eBay rules.

No need to respond -- you have done nothing wrong, and the seller can not demand additional shipping fees.
If the item has been shipped, do nothing.
You might consider providing the seller with negative feedback, however, since the seller's after-sale behavior reflects poorly on the seller.

@unemployed_husky Keep an eye on your feedback and if the seller leaves you a Green dot with a negative comment report to eBay to have it removed. Comment will be removed and green (positive) dot will remain.
As others have said s/he is trying it on, no way can s/he ask for more shipping than listed.

It’s not your problem that the seller under charged shipping.
It isn’t a scam either, just an inexperienced seller.
As yes it’s against policy to ask for more money after an item is sold.
I wouldn’t communicate further with that seller.

You only pay what the listing shows you, if the seller screwed up, they make up the difference.

It is pretty obvious from what you wrote, that the seller is either new or very inexperienced, which is obvious because No experienced seller uses a pack & ship company because of their "labor and materials surcharge fee" over the shipping cost, which drives the shipping price way up. Many new/inexperienced sellers often guestimate the shipping costs, rather than get postage rates. Then there is the request for more money, "or else" which is against ebay's rules.
That seller may have a 100% rating and a fair number of feedback, but all for buying not selling, at least in the last year. That is just one reason why you should always check each seller's feedback profile page, Before bidding on or buying their item. Newbies often run into issues with their first sales.
I would reply politely saying your sorry they chose to use a pack and ship service, but by ebay's rules you are not required to make up the difference, and they cannot change the shipping price after the sale. As for feedback, I would just not leave one for the transaction, even if they try to violate another rule by leaving a negative comment with a positive rating. When you get it removed they will get a defect for doing that.

Disgusting seller behavior. Report them, and have them taken off ebay. It's people like that who make good sellers look bad. When the item arrives, wait and leave them very polite negative feedback. Don't cuss or use an angry, condescending, or insulting tone, because ebay will automatically remove that.

If the buyer replies to the seller, explaining that they refuse to pay the extra shipping cost ,then the seller might recall the package. So I recommend just ignoring the request, at least until the package has been delivered.

If the seller is already that much in the hole I can't imagine they would pay another $15 to recall the package.
