I have been reading all the seller complaints concerning the Spring Update. It concerns me that so many say they are quitting or leaving soon. They might be just venting, but, if there is any truth to their statements, I don't want to risk my money to an unconcerned or disgruntled seller. If they are leaving anyhow, there is no reason for them to be concerned about giving me good service or shipping any item I might purchase. Probably better to put off any bids or new purchases until this mess sorts itself out over the next few weeks.

Even if they leave, you are still protected by eBay and the Resolution Center below.

And most won't even leave.  But, if they do, we will all list a lot more to take up the empty space.

There are something like 5 million sellers on eBay.  I doubt that 50 will close up shop because of this.  And those are the ones that think they should get to list for free and not have to lift a finger to take care of their listings.  You won't even notice the difference.

I can see from several of the threads you've started that you have some concerns about GTC as well. I'm sure you don't think people should stop buying from you, do you?

I won't be overly concerned if they do. I am slowing down buying myself and have not been listing a lot until the dust settles.  What purchases I do make will be from sellers I have dealt with before.

The last stats I read on Ebay sellers was twenty five million, with 168 million members worldwide, and 1.2 billion listings.

Since 2008, just about every Spring & Fall update has caused many sellers to vent about how unfair they are, and threaten to quit.  Some do, but most continue on.  Many start using other sites as well as ebay, and cut down on the number of listings they have here.  However, we do not see a huge increase in the number of complaints by buyers about seller non performance within a few months of the updates going into effect.  After all, some sellers may only take a break from ebay, but if they start up again, they do not need to have a string of nonpositive feedback hanging around their neck.  Those who do start selling on other sites often use their ebay name, hoping previous buyers will recognize them, another incentive not to cause buyers to become unhappy with them.

The recent Early seller update, may not be the only one we get this spring. eBay may have more in store for us, and they are not likely to be well received.  Then the  cries of anguish, and gnashing of teeth will start all over again. It may be July before the hue and cry dies down.  IMO, you are worrying about nothing.

I am one seller that is not at all happy with the spring update. Although I am not shutting down at this point, I will not list fixed price any longer due to the new update. Anyway ... Speaking for myself ... Even though I am not happy with Ebay due to their update, I would not treat my buyers any differently, and will continue to provide the same service to them by packing well and shipping their item out fast (within 1 business day) as I always have being I realize that without buyers, I wouldn't have any sales at all, so I value my buyers. If you are concerned about any seller, I would recommend communicating with them before purchasing. If they are unresponsive, then I would pass on their items. As far as the member that made a statement about sellers wanting to list for free without lifting a finger ... I for one do like to list for free being there are so many other fees involved with selling on Ebay (final value, shipping, and PayPal fees on every item sold), but I put a LOT of time into it (cleaning, photos, descriptions, packing, and shipping), so therefore I cannot understand how that person can say it is without lifting a finger!

I'm sure you are right, or at least much closer than I am.  I couldn't remember what the numbers were, just knew there are a lot.

quayvar - not referring to how you behave after a sale happens, only to how some small sellers don't want to take care of their lsitings or - heaven forbid! - pay eBay a penny here or there.  And if you think the costs of selling here are high, go out into the brick & mortar world and see what it costs to sell.  eBay is cheap.

myboardid - If you are only paying a penny here or there, please do share how that is done. If you like the further digging into sellers pockets, that's fine, but every seller doesn't have to share the same opinion.

Easy - I have a store, I get 1000 listings a month, which amounts to about 6 cents each, plus the other benefits of the store.  GTC works very well for me, and I get sales every day, including many for items that are not either just listed or in the ending soonest section. 

As to opinions, you seem to feel I shouldn't be allowed to have mine.

• Rent a store for $25 a month for 250 "free" listings and pay full price for the other 24 you have up at the moment -> monthly cost ~$33.or  12 cents each.
• With TRS status your FVF are reduced
• You can put your Store on vacation if necessary and not pay a new fee when you reopen it.
• You get a quarterly allowance for eBay branded shipping supplies.

As it is, you are paying ~$96 a month for your listings. Plus the full 10% FVF plus 10% on your (lowest domestic) shipping charges.  Store sellers who can use Free Shipping automatically pay less FVF on shipping.

• Because your items are bulky, using Free Shipping (including a Flat Rate for shipping in your asking price) is probably not feasible.

I can see how that works for sellers that have that amount of time to list that many items, so paying for a store does not suit me. When I stated ... I appreciate you trying to help, but what you describe does not suit my needs due to many factors in how I list. Thank you though.
