My bids keep getting kicked out with seconds to go when other buyers use auto bid, not fair!

So tonight, I was rebidding on an item, that I had gotten out bided on.  But this unfair dilemma occurred with another auction and has happened quite regularly now on here.

This isn't the first time this has happened and now I know it won't be the last.  But, Ebay has now started something where a bidder can have Ebay bid on one's behalf.  So, if I'm a bidder who likes to do my own bidding for an item, I'll never win on here anymore.   Without letting Ebay or this self-bidding system bid for me.  Why? I wait for down to the wire sometimes and then bid.  Tonight, I had 10 seconds and that's quite long.  The system wouldn't enter my bid.  Then 8 seconds down and I put in the bid again and then I just kept clicking the areas for upping the bid by X amount of dollars and never once would the system of Ebay's ever put my bid in and there was time left at least at 10 seconds and 8 seconds down to the wire.  Instead, the other person won by having an automatic bid go in again on their behalf by $1.00.  I'm saying the system kept kicking my bid out!  I wish to know why?  If this keeps happening, I won't bother bidding any more on Ebay.   Because if a machine now decides who wins what fun is this.  Half the fun is the adrenaline rush to get down to the wire to win the item you love.  Has this happened to other Ebay users?  If so, how often?

@mine_yet-60,

It is hard for me to believe that a member who joined when you did, back when about 80% of the items listed on ebay were still auctions, that you did not know about ebay's Automatic bidding system and how it works. It was in place when I first joined in 1998.  Maybe you should open the link blow and read all of the info in it, and click on the link about Bid Sniping, at the bottom of the article.

You are losing auctions because you are not bidding enough to win.   It is the highest bid that wins, not the last bid.    Nibble bidding is a poor strategy.

The best bidding strategy is to decide the absolute, top-dollar most you would pay for the item.   Add a few odd cents to break a possible tie and then bid that amount as late in the auction as possible.   If you win, great!  If you lose, the other fool paid too much.

Wait a minute.   This is a joke post, right?   You have been on ebay since 2004 and haven't figured out how to win an auction?    Gimme a break.

But, Ebay has now started something where a bidder can have Ebay bid on one's behalf.

I don't know how to break this to you, but eBay's proxy bidding system, where eBay will bid on your behalf, has been in place since I joined in 1996.

You have to max bid when you first bid:

Example...Bid $50 for that $4 thingy; then as the bids increase, YOUR bid will automatically 'raise' above the 'other' bidders.

I've heard of sniping programs that have been around forever but I've never used one myself.

What you were experiencing was not a glitch.  Ebay wasn't accepting your bid because you had already been outbid.

 Most of the action doesn't happen until the last 10 seconds before an item ends and then it can go up hundreds of dollars.

 Like another poster said you have to decide the absolute most you're willing to pay and then wait until right before the auction ends and bid that.  Either somebody was willing to pay more than you or not.

 Do not attempt to figure out what the price is going to go for by bidding small amounts at the end that will not work.

@mine_yet-60

Timing doesn't matter. You never have to rebid if you simply bid once, the absolute MOST you would be willing to spend on the item.

Highest bid wins.

There is a glitch and it happened again today.  At the very end of bidding I think if users are clicking and clicking the pages over and over.  It does knock out bids, one is trying to put in.  I thought maybe bidders are using the services offered on the net to bid for them.    I don't give a hoot what you say.  You know this is why it's so un-enjoyable buying or selling on this website any more!

People there are other services offered for bidding on ones behalf. Besides putting in the absolute highest bid you'd wish to pay for an item with ones user ID using Ebay.    Now as to whether it's wise to give another website your password to let these automated systems bid on Ebay for you, I don't think so!  I wouldn't trust other websites employees with my password.

By the way I did want Ebay to let me know if they realize this is going on.  But, I know what I'm experiencing lately with bidding within seconds to go  (8 to 10 seconds to be exact) and the page automatically goes to the listing and won't enter my bid.  Right when I'm putting in last seconds.  Then I have to click the blue section on the page to try and get a bid within like 2-3 seconds left.  That's what happened today and I'm sticking to it, what I'm saying.  Of course I know people to put ahead of time what I'd like to absolutely bid for an item (highest amount wish to pay).  But, sometimes that method doesn't work depending on how other person bids in last seconds as well.

No one is comprehending it's not about a amount of a bid not winning.  It's the FACT that I can't get my bid to even get entered in last seconds because the page glitches out the minute I enter any bid. Meaning like when you refresh a page.

But, happy to know no one else is going through this, wish I wasn't!
