Mail fraud switching tracking numbers with addresses in the same zip code

Mail fraud Scam of Sellers by switching tracking numbers with addresses in the same zip code area, but states that it was delivered to you and was not. But it was sent to a different address by 4-Onuces, yet original package would be 10lbs. So the Seller sends out a ghost decoy envelope to a different address with your tracking number and you get nothing in the end with the false tracking that states it arrived at your address when it did not... eBay is doing nothing about this mail fraud scam, that means they condone it by denial. eBay doesn't even have a link to report this issue. AI is a failure. You need real people & agents for these issues.  I really think that the Share holders need to know about this issue that has been going on for a long time.

If tracking shows delivery, but nothing arrives, contact the shipping service to determine if the tracking corresponds to a delivery to your address.

If you can obtain hard copy documentation of that the tracking does not correspond to a delivery to your address, contact eBay via social media and explain that you have a case of "false tracking" and you should be given the opportunity to provide your documentation to eBay via direct message. This is different than the usual "item not received" case which is handled automatically and which allows the seller to win by providing tracking that shows delivery.

You can avoid many issues entirely by choosing to only do business with experienced sellers that have a proven track record of delivering similar items as seen by examining the seller's feedback page, and by avoiding inexperienced sellers, sellers with patterns of negative feedback indicating serious problems, or sellers with large gaps in the selling history or recent drastic changes of seller behavior.

Real people and agents on eBay that are familiar with this scam AND have the authority to help you can be found here:

https://www.facebook.com/eBay/ (use the blue message button)

OR one of these:

https://www.instagram.com/ebayforsellers/

https://x.com/askebay

There are other options as well, but get it out of your head about filing INR.  Since there is recorded delivery, even though it is fake, your claim will be denied.  What to do and more importantly what NOT to do can be found in these more recent discussions.  Come back if you have any questions BEFORE proceeding.

Contacting eBay is a joke in this matter even when I attached documents for the report to prove it. AI or what ever, no one to talk to. Issues can't be resolved. The whole help thing, takes you into circles. I can't get a a proper response from eBay. Also eBay is not protecting the Sellers or the buyers in these matters. Besides me the proof is all over YouTube! I use to be able to talk to live people from eBay, where are they?

@rhen8349,

"I use to be able to talk to live people from eBay, where are they?"

The people you used to be able to call were located in the Philippines at a 3rd party call center, that was closed during the covid lock downs, and had to read from eBay's play book, which does not cover every contingency. Now they do have U.S. based call center reps, but they too read from the playbook.  The only way to reach them is to use the help and contact button at the bottom of ebay pages to arrange for a call back. Unfortunately, you cannot send them any links or attachments to prove your case.

The social media reps are live people who are actual ebay employees who have the power or overturn an earlier denied dispute and issue refunds. You do need to provide those reps with the seller's username and the ebay item number which can be found in the Order details. You can add attachments to messages you send them.

"eBay is doing nothing about this mail fraud scam, that means they condone it by denial...  Also eBay is not protecting the Sellers or the buyers in these matters. Besides me the proof is all over YouTube!".

The main reason why ebay and other companies have trouble dealing with the fake tracking number scam is because of the various shipping agency's privacy policies. Basically they boil down to not giving out specific information to anyone but the sender, because it is only they who has a contract with them to provide delivery.  eBay is not even the recipient in these cases so they can't access the info, unless the sender's public tracking info shows a different zip code where a package was delivered.

 You can get the shippers to provide some info in general via email, but ebay will not accept emails because they can be faked.  As for the reports you've found on social media or Youtube most of those are written by people who never read ebay's Money Back Guarantee policy, and didn't come to these boards where most of us know the policies and their pitfalls, to try and get help.

Try contacting ebay through their social media outlets. Those reps are familiar with the scam and they can be sent  info that you collect. It really helps if you sign up to receive shipper's Free enhanced tracking information. Those notices provide information that can be used to win an appeal.  USPS - Informed Delivery, FedEx - Delivery Manager,  UPS - My Choice.
