Leaving feedback

Has anyone else noticed that a lot of the sellers have caught on to the fact that we are unable to leave feedback once 60 days have passed since original purchase date?  I'm finding that if I purchase something on Sept 9, 2018, they will enter an estimated delivery date of November 13.  When I get an ETA that looks like this, I know on September 9 that I'm not going to get the product.  EBay-  let us leave feedback regardless of the invoice date.  You cut it off too soon and basically put duct tape on my mouth on the 60 day Mark.  Not impressed.

@virtualwhimsy - so am I correct in interpreting your message as such - a buyer deserves to keep a 100% feedback score even though they never send their product?  All they have to do is give a delivery time of 63 days - and then when the buyer decides to "contact seller", the seller responds with "please, dear, allow 7 more days as there has been terrible weather."?

How does a seller asking for  you to allow them 7 more days prevent you from leaving feedback?

If you allow a seller to drag you beyond the 60-day feedback limit that is your choice.  It is not something the seller or eBay forces on you.

Re: Leaving feedback

If you allow any seller to drag you on..thats on you..take some responsibility for that..and also for the sellers you continue to do business with.

Re: Leaving feedback

, it is interesting to me how some of you are so quick to tell me that I am doing something wrong when I was merely stating that there are dishonest sellers out there and that eBay continues to allow them to be dishonest on their app. Let me just state that I have done nothing wrong here except point out that there are dishonest sellers and question why a big conglomerate like eBay continues to support them. So again it's very interesting how some seem to defend the dishonest and corrupt in an effort to prove the honest person wrong. I was wrong in assuming that a retailer would do business honestly and ethically   I will own that.  and it's been proven to me how wrong I was, again, in deciding to join the eBay "community".   thank you but I'm going to steer away from the purple Kool-Aid.

Re: Leaving feedback

Yes most newbies come in here preaching to the choir..so thats nothing new,really. and yes, with 25 million sellers on here there are some dishonest ones..just as there are out there in the retail world. I would say..vet your sellers a little better..cheap doesnt mean good.And I dont believe Ebay supports bad sellers, they are quick to suspend them..depending on their infractions..you just dont understand those infractions. And I wont repeat them all here again to you..good luck.

Re: Leaving feedback

P.S. Ebay is not a "retailer",Ebay is a flea market,which provides a venue for individual sellers to market their wares.Usually at rock bottom prices.With 1.2 billion Ebay listings worldwide, the competition is tough.

Re: Leaving feedback

@nev5832

Feedback is irrelevant.

EBay does not use FB to assess a selling account.

If you have not received your purchase by the last estimated date for delivery  (in your example Nov 13, two months from purchase) you still have 30 days to take useful action, get a refund and possibly put a Defect on the seller's account.

Defects can lead to restrictions in the number or value of listings the seller can make, raised fees, or even the closing of a seller's account.

The eBay Resolution Centre is at the bottom of this page.

 The claim would be for Item Not Received.

If you miss that deadline, you have 180 days (six months) from payment to open a claim on Paypal. The PP Resolution Centre is at the top of your PP account page under Tools.

And if you can't get that to work, you can still go to the credit card that you use to back your PP account and phone about a chargeback.

Any of which actually puts money back in your pocket and significantly affects the seller.

Also you can leave feedback before the item arrives, although negative feedback may make seller cooperation more difficult or lead future sellers to reconsider your bids.

Re: Leaving feedback

@nev5832

if it is not important, then why do they continue to attempt to bribe Me?

Because as long as they can keep you focussed on Feedback, they don't have to refund you and they don't lose a claim that really does affect their selling account.

@bonjourami

I agree with your basic point.

But could we all stop saying eBay is a flea market?

How about a shopping mall?

Many different sellers, many different price ranges, many different products.

But most sellers are proud of their little businesses. Their products are (sorry about the jargon) curated, chosen to please their customers tastes and pocketbooks.

And that includes the Chinese sellers and the dropshippers, much as I hate to admit it.

And like a shopping mall, eBay has rules for the businesses renting space here. A mall has opening hours, standards for signage, and advertises* for its tenants.

EBay holds  sellers to their own standards too. Most of which sellers are quite content to follow because they actually work and pull in the punters.

And some of which are horrible-- like a mall that  insists on every store having midnight opening on Black Friday.

But-- shopping mall.

Let's keep it classy.

*Well, eBay is pretty bad at that one.

I don't see anyone here defending the dishonest.

What you are being told is that if you take the simple steps of protecting yourself first you won't have to deal with the dishonest sellers.  And if more buyers did know the rules and hold those sellers to the rules, those sellers would eventually lose business.

If you know you only have 60 days to leave feedback and the listing gives an estimated delivery date beyond that, don't buy.  If you know you only have 60 days and the seller tries to get you to wait until it's too late, don't fall for it.

This is not defending the dishonest seller.  It is giving the buyer information helpful to avoiding the dishonest seller or his trap.

Yes, Ebay is a self serve site..Ebay will protect you after the fact..not before, they are not going to hold your hand,so learn to protect yourself before the fact..with a few common sense,bidding and buying, techniques.

You not getting to post some negative feedback does not equate to ebay supporting dishonest sellers.  As others have pointed out, if you don't receive what you paid for, you can follow the appropriate steps and ebay will hold the seller accountable.  Seems like you're just more interested in leaving negative feedback than actually holding the seller accountable.

Assuming you meant "seller" and not "buyer" - I have no idea where you got that from my post.

Re: Leaving feedback

Most find the sixty days more than adequate.  If you are buying internationally, you might want to reconsider that.

Re: Leaving feedback

I see nothing irrelevant in lintbrush's comments.  The most relevant being do not buy from a listing that has an estimated delivery timeframe that you do not like, if it goes beyond the 60 days to leave feedback, since that is your gripe.  It's entirely in your control to avoid that situation.
