Item not delivered

I received an email saying that the 8 piece set of 2" exhaust tubing that I had purchased was "at or in my mailbox" I found that rather amusing seeing the size of these items. When I called the USPS to ask about my parts the local USPS employee said that my name was on the package, but not my address and they would not tell me what address was on the package. Top that off with them telling me that the package weighed 0.35 ounces. Sooo, my question to you is where are my 2" exhaust pipes, and why was the 0.35 ounce package sent to some other address than the one in ebay?

I really need to talk to a human to get this straightened out!

Re: Item not delivered

Hi Cruiserman!

I had this happen to me, but on an Amazon purchase, not an eBay purchase.

The Scam:

It’s sometimes called the “same zip code scam”.
The seller sends something to a random address in your zip code — usually something way lighter, and always worthless. It then shows as “delivered” in tracking.

How to Document it:

To convince CS, you’ll have to gather some evidence. I went to my local PO and they were able to provide me with a print out of the weight of the package (1 ounce, when my purchase should have been 6+ pounds), and they did provide the address (which was an apartment building, not my single family house.) It may be very helpful to file a police report - this shows eBay you are serious. (I didn’t have to go that far, as the customer service rep believed me over the seller with no feedback.)

I called, had the proof and was believed.

Someone with more current experience should weigh in here about contacting eBay customer service. However, I believe if you go thru several help screens, you will eventually get to a “we will call you” option. Make sure your phone settings allow unknown numbers before you hit that option. Have all your proof in front of you, and you will prevail.

good luck!

Re: Item not delivered

To get the best possible CS reps, you need to contact ebay for business through social media (facebook or X).  If you contact through the ebay site, you'll get routed to their outsourced reps halfway around the world, many of whom speak very poor english and have just about zero knowledge of ebay policy.

Re: Item not delivered

@cruiserman,

Open the link below then click on the Go to Best Answer  button.  In that answer I explain what will happen when you open an Initial Item Not Received (INR) dispute, and what you need to do to win an Appeal with any of the 3 main shipping agencies. If you've lost an appeal then you can go to ebay's social media sites, to get a refund.  You are lucky the item was shipped via USPS, they tend to be more responsive when asked to get the note you need.  However, some more rural P.O.s may not be aware of the scam and those clerks may balk about giving you the info.
