When bidding on an item that is shipping internationally, is there a way to know what the fee's, taxes, etc. are before bidding? I've only heard horror stories on how much they are and wondered if there's a way to know what those costs are up front? We've sold items overseas before and have seen the additional costs nearly the same as the purchase price.

There will be a sales tax charged by your state on any ebay purchase at the same rate you pay in local stores, so you can calculate that yourself. As for customs fees, unless you are bidding on or buying something that costs more than $800, there are no customs fees.
The exception to that is if you purchase luxury items, (designer clothing, accessories, jewelry, watches etc.) from Japan. I do not know if there are other countries that have the same fees attached.

Many items sold overseas are heavily taxed inorder to get the buyers from those countries to buy items made in their country. As a seller you never know what your foreign buyer will be taxed. If you plan on buying, I can't help you there. Perhaps you can google that question if no one knows the answer here.

Since the fees, taxes, etc. are based on the item price, an exact assessment cannot be made until the auction ends with the said price.
