Is this about an item you found on a site other than eBay, like Facebook Marketplace? If so, it is indeed a scam. Ebay has nothing to do with listings on other sites nor will they ever ask you to pay with giftcards.

No one on eBay is going to ask you to pay with gift card, unless you found something not listed on eBay. If you did not find it on eBay and they say they are connected with eBay, they are not and it is a scam.

How about returning and offering more details of your problem?
