Hi all, just looking for some insight on this little frustration I had. I did message ebay, so hoping t hear back something. I made a purchase on May 28. I immediately noticed that it said 'payment pending'. I know sometimes that happens with new sellers especially if they still need to register with Paypal. But anyway I messaged seller just to make sure they saw the payment sent. They never responded. A short while later I get a message from ebay telling me my 'payment didn't go through so the order was cancelled, and I need to send payment again.'(?)
I went back to the order information and there wasn't an option to pay again. Come to find out, the item was already relisted (?). I purchased it Again and paid immediately. It went through fine that time and I got my order confirmation. I still never heard from the seller but I didn't worry about it, thought maybe it was all a glitch and she didn't even notice it.
FIVE days later, on June 2, I get another message from ebay telling me that the seller cancelled my order, reason 'out of stock, or item damaged'.
Now, I'm really not happy. 😞 I've had no communication from this seller at all, and she doesn't answer my email.
I decided to leave her a negative feeedback, because her service is absolutely poor. Just a little communication would have made me happy so I know what's going on.
The feedback I left was removed, I believe by the next day. WHY? I'm totally confused by this. The feedback said 'seller cancelled 5 days after purchase with no communication at all'.
What's going on, anybody know?

The transaction was canceled, so it never happened.

Since the sale was canceled, in affect it never happened so neither party can leave feedback.

Since when? A seller can cancel an order now and cannot receive feedback on it? I was actually ABLE to leave the feedback but it was removed.
This must be something new?

I see numerous neutral-negative feedbacks where a buyer states "seller cancelled" .
What would be the difference here???

I really don't know how this story got started but cancelling does not prevent feedback.
eBay has been removing a lot of feedback lately as added protections related to the pandemic likely it was just removed under that

Thank-you myangel, I thought something new started, lol. There was no reason it should have been removed so who knows what excuse the seller used.

It's just wrong to remove much deserved negative feedback. How are we going to know what kind of seller we are purchasing from, if the feedback score is fake?
I think the reason people think they can't leave feedback when a sale is cancelled is because the feedback option on that transaction is not readily available, you have to dig a little to find it.

A non consummated transaction does not negate the ability to leave feedback regarding it. It never has. And there has indeed been more negative feedback removal, as of late. Possibly, eBay is looking at public feedback as a posting forum. Much like Twitter or Craigslist (rants/raves) has the ability to flag inappropriate content, according to their terms of use. EBay has become more aware of delicate terms such as fraud, thief, or any other defamation of character type adjectives, as they actually enter a quasi-legal area. Suffice it to say, it is becoming more politically correct to lambast the transaction or the product or anything other than the seller directly, which is actually academic and unproven. This is just a logical guess, so please don't tie me to the Town Square whipping Post for enumerating.

Okay, so I received a response from ebay. This is a total joke. The feedback was removed because the seller was impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and cannot ship.
She currently, at this very moment, has dozens of items listed and is selling items daily.

Where is the seller located?

Seller is located in Arkansas.
As mentioned, seller currently has Many items listed, and got feedback removed because they are unable to ship? I never even asked them to ship. I would have been thrilled to receive it at all, I was just happy to purchase it. Price was great, I was Thrilled to find this item. I never would have complained about shipping time.
The order was Cancelled 5 days after purchase, no explanation at all. 😞 No communication from seller, not even a response to my message. Then feedback, I had every right to leave, was removed.

Leaving feedback for a canceled transaction has always been tricky, depending on what reason the seller used to cancel.

The reason (excuse) used was 'out of stock'. I have certainly had that happen, in my 20+ years on ebay, and normally the seller would message and apologize for the error. This seller never communicated and held onto my money for 5 days, and then just cancelled, no contact or explanation at all, and no response to my email.
I think we can all agree that this is the kind of seller nobody wants to deal with. There's no good excuse for this behavior, pandemic or not.
I'm quite sure this seller got an offer to sell outside of ebay, as it was a rare item and priced way too low. Ebay lost too, lol, and they removed the feedback. Joke is on ebay 🙂
