I'm just noticing this tonight, and it is getting very annoying very quickly. I'm on a Desktop PC with Google Chrome. If I search for something on ebay, now when I click a search result it pulls up the listing in a new tab. It USED to just open it in the same window. I used to be in the habit of right-clicking and manually choosing to open in a new tab only if and when I wanted to do so, but now I'm finding I quickly have a bunch of tabs open.
Is it just me experiencing this, or has ebay recently re-programmed it to work this way?

I think ebay did make a change. I know they were having an issue when a parson clicked on an item to view the listing, then clicked Back, it would go back to the top of the search results page they were on. I hadn't searched for anything lately and just tried a search, items opened in a new tab on my computer using Firefox. I actually like that because If I am interested I can either save it to one of my watches or go back to the results page and open others of the same item to compare listings.

Agreed, I usually right click on the add and open in a new window so I don't lose my place when searching.

So.... how is this helpful?? This stops pop ups, I want it to stop opening a new tab. Not force pop ups into a new tab...
