Ebay reviews are FRAUDULENT!!!!!!

I've bought from Ebay for nearly 20 years, and to my recollection have never left a negative feedback. I left one a couple weeks ago because this seller was horrendous. I find out today that the seller "hid" the review according to the rep I was chatting with. Ebay is a place I buy from STRICTLY based on the review of the seller. Now I see I can't trust the reviews...who knows how many other people had the same experience hidden that would have caused me to look for another seller if I read it and save a month of headache out my life. Going forward Ebay will be the very last option...if it is even an option anymore...for me to buy something from. There's actually four items in my cart that amount to just under $700 that I was going to buy through ebay, just off of principle, now I'm going to take a drive to one seller's store and buy two of the items, and the other two I'm going to place an order on the other seller's website.

I don't like the fact Ebay presents this rating thing as something someone can trust and yet still allow sellers to hide negative feedback without investigating the situation and seeing evidence from the buyer's side. FRAUDULENT!! I'm going to be a dog with a bone with this one and see what outside agency I can light a fire under to dig into this fraudulent **bleep**. I know the UK government and the FTC are doing something about fake reviews....but hiding negative reviews seems to be the same thing, and I'm going to start with a letter to them and my congressman....the government seems to love big tech companies nowadays...and inducing customers with curated reviews and there's evidence all over the internet about it, I think they'll like that.

Re: Ebay reviews are FRAUDULENT!!!!!!

 "Reviews" (Feedback) will ONLY stay if

the 'leaver' does NOT state things that are unfounded and or remarks about 'being refunded' or 'opening a case' or or ...

as well as if the Seller offers FULL returns, you would have no reason to leave such a feedback.

Besides, feedback has ONLY been able to be left for 'Buyers' that is POSITIVE yet there are MANY crooked Buyers on this and every other site...which means FEEDBACK is meaningless anyway..

As well as a 'buyer' with a giant (45) by their name should be fairly meaningless in the first place.

Just like it has been for EVERY site since the 90's (after all, ANYONE can say ANYTHING on Yelp..for instance)

Re: Ebay reviews are FRAUDULENT!!!!!!

1/ NOTHING stated in the feedback was unfounded, about a refund, or a case. EVERYTHING was factual with no opinion given besides the "seller shouldn't be trusted" because he literally lied in an email.

2/ Weather or not the seller offers full refund has absolutely NOTHING to do with a review about their conduct, interaction with them, how they handled shipping, or anything else. To say that just because I get my money back I shouldn't be able to provide feedback on their honesty, conduct, follow through is absolutely absurd...if that is what you are intimating. Oh, and by the way, I told the seller offers refunds and I told him I wanted a refund and got no reply, ebay stepped in and gave me my money back....which I didn't even mention on the feedback for all of your brilliance.

3/ The amount reviews I have has absolutely nothing to do with anything. And to insinuate because I don't shop on ebay enough to have a higher feedback count makes my experience or feedback is meaningless is again....absurd. I guess I should ignore all sellers that have a low feedback count. SMH.

If you have an issue with the ability to leave negative reviews for buyers, that's your issue. Speak on it. Or stop selling on ebay if that's an issue to you. You state that as if it's possible to leave feedback on a buyer in any other popular market, or as if a seller is going to refuse money from someone.

I absolutely agree with you. approximately the same situation. Moreover, I lost money on paying customs duties and sending the goods(???) back. The seller "was not able" to send me a coupon for return shipping, and did not return the money. eBay simply covers up scammers.

Re: Ebay reviews are FRAUDULENT!!!!!!

@qvae,

I see that you left a negative that started with "Seller promised arrival by a certain date..."  If that is the one you are posting about, it is still there on page 2 of the seller's feedback profile page, which has a default setting of displaying the last 25 feedback received.  If it had been removed, it would also have been removed from your feedback profile page.

FYI All delivery dates are estimated ones based on the average delivery time of a sellers shipped items. Those are set by ebay not the seller, and do not always conform to what the shipping service posts as their estimated delivery dates.

"... just off of principle, now I'm going to take a drive to one seller's store and buy two of the items  ... the other two I'm going to place an order on the other seller's website".

If a seller has a B&M store near enough to drive to, why would you buy from them online? The part may cost less at the store since it doesn't have to be shipped, even if they offer free shipping, which is never Free to the sender.  Returns/refunds would also be faster.

What makes you think that buying from the seller's website will guarantee on time delivery if they have feedback for slow or late delivery on ebay?

The negative feedback you left is viewable in your feedback.

Re: Ebay reviews are FRAUDULENT!!!!!!

You seem extremely aggressive. Somebody who volunteers their time to help others on this board is simply telling you the Ebay rule about automatically deleting feedback if a return occurs and the buyer is fully refunded.  @stainlessenginecovers @ can't control this rule they are just informing you of it and you are lashing out at them like they are Ebay.

Either you are wrong and have left two negative feedbacks that were negative (out of only a few purchases you have made) or the feedback you were referring to is the one that's on there still about it arriving a few days late. Anyone that reads that feedback of yours would roll their eyes and see you as a buyer who doesn't understand that sometimes shipments arrive late because of the carrier and you shouldn't blame the seller for that. Assuming they sent the package in their handling time that feedback should definitely be deleted.

Maybe eBay isn't the best place for you to shop.

@mudshark61369

No that's not the feedback that has been hidden. I forgot about that negative feedback because the item never arrived so it wasn't on my mind. No I didn't know the arrival time was an ebay estimate, thank you for that information. But regardless of that, I gave the shipping room for error of an extra 3 days, which didn't matter because it didn't arrive anyway. But I will say this (and this is just my opinion on shipping and has nothing to do with the subject at hand or this particular shipping incident), regardless of shipping being ebay's estimate, if the item is shipped as I expect it to be shipped...within 24 hours of order unless weekend/holidays...the item should arrive by ebay's estimates unless it's international, weather, or seller lies about actual shipping method used. I have never had a late arrival from ebay before. And I hold myself to the same expectations on shipping with my own online store (not ebay) with getting things out within 24 hours.

I buy online vs B&M for convenience, not distance or price. Either way, both of these seller's prices are the same on Ebay as their B&M and online stores. No disrespect, but your last sentence I'm not connecting the relevance, so I don't know how to respond.

@ebooksdiva

Different seller. I forgot about that one because the item never arrived. First time that ever happened.

@sapphire_studio

Yes, I was aggressive with that reply, and justifiably so. And no, he was not being helpful, he was being condescending (much like you are bordering on) and justifying things he has no knowledge of instead of asking pertinent questions on the subject...like for example mudshark61369.

Re: Ebay reviews are FRAUDULENT!!!!!!

You said in your original post you left ONE negative feedback, so what your saying is you left more than ONE negative feedback.

If an MBG case was opened and the seller has met their obligations any negative or neutral feedback is removed.  You can find the Seller Protection policy by searching in Help & Contact.

not so.

A refund does not necessarily constitute a positive experience.

Re: Ebay reviews are FRAUDULENT!!!!!!

Sellers can't "hide" feedback.

There are various reasons eBay will remove feedback under their policies.

If you mentioned eBay having to step in and refund.

If you mentioned leaving less then positive feedback in communication with the seller.

If the seller has a free return policy or is a top rated seller with a return policy it can be eligible to be removed if you are refunded.

If the buyer is a competitor in the same market of items.

If the buyer leaves excessive amounts of negative feedback.

If personal information was mentioned in the feedback.

I know some of these don't apply but these are some of the main reasons.

Ah, then your memory is failing you, because you left this negative within the past 30 days, in addition to the one you say is now "hidden":  Seller promised arrival by certain date, 3 days after package still didn't arrive. I'm on ebay 20 years and this has never happened. I ordered 7 other products between ebay and another site and all arrived on time so I know weather was not a factor.

If the CSR told you the neg in question was "hidden" by the seller, you were told nonsense because no seller can hide his feedback.  The badly-trained, over-worked, poorly-paid CSRs are notorious for telling you what you want to hear in order to get you off the phone so they can take the next call.

So, evidently, this second neg you left was removed because it violated one of the feedback guidelines.

Good luck in your campaign to have the government create the infastructure and hire and train sufficient employees to make sure all the feedback and reviews on the internet are accurate,

Re: Ebay reviews are FRAUDULENT!!!!!!

What does the "UK government" have to do with this? You are in the USA.

Never expect an item to be delivered on time. Besides the weather, other factors could have happened.

Feedback can be removed by eBay or the seller if it has words a buyer cannot use in feedback. Sounds like it wasn't an honest feedback.

Re: Ebay reviews are FRAUDULENT!!!!!!

@12345jamesstamps I was wondering that myself.

I don’t believe any government office would want to be bothered with eBay feedback, they have more important things to do.

All this fuss over a feedback that was removed… too much wasted energy IMO

Re: Ebay reviews are FRAUDULENT!!!!!!

Hi @qvae

It may surprise you to discover that not all the feedback / reviews you see on eBay and other websites represent accurate information about the transaction.  Buyers occasionally leave bad reviews for the wrong seller ... and/or leave inaccurate reviews because they are in a bad mood or are just 'bad people' (scammers).

If you want to stop buying on eBay because you've discovered that eBay will occasionally remove a negative review ... that is certainly your prerogative.  But you should be aware that just about every selling venues that allows buyers to leave reviews has less than perfectly accurate reviews.

I've been buying on eBay just a little longer than you have ... and have not had much difficulty weeding out the bad sellers if I took the time to do so ... regardless of eBay removing an occasional feedback.  But you do what you need to do ... and have a very Happy New Years!  😊
