Ebay allows sellers to WASTE buyer's time and tie up their money

I bought an item from a seller and paid for it.   Several days went by and the seller did not mark it as shipped.  The seller did not reply.    Then after the delivery date, the seller cancelled the sale.   I got an email that in 3 to 5 days my money would be refunded.   I was blocked from leaving feedback.

I have been here 21 years and SICK of Ebay's stupid rules.   If I buy and pay for something I should be allowed to leave feedback.   This seller gets away with wasting buyer's time.

Then, why isn't Ebay refunding my money immediately?   The deducted the money from paypal immediately.  They are holding my money to make interest off it.

I really considering closing the Ebay account.   It just is not worth being here.  I gave up selling because I am not giving my SSN to Ebay and not giving them free access to my bank acct.

Thank you.

Re: Ebay allows sellers to WASTE buyer's time and tie up their money

Sellers should honestly be required to make their handling times public in their listing.  And if they can't meet their own posted handling times, then buyers should be able to cancel the transaction all on their own for a full refund.

My most recent two purchases are both just sitting there.  Sellers can't be bothered to ship.  One seller won't respond to inquiries and the other seller has informed me that they won't be able to ship until after the estimated delivery window.

I've done way more shopping on Amazon and I've never had this problem (yet).  I want to like Ebay, but its honestly usually my last resort.

Oddly eBay used to display handling time and now they don't.   A seller is required to input handling time in the shipping section but eBay quit showing it to buyers.

The money has to have time to process.  If the seller is in managed payments the payment may have left PayPal immediately but the seller wouldn't have got it for days for the same reason the money has to process and clear through the system

You should still be able to leave feedback even if the seller cancelled

Sellers do put handling times - it is under Shipping next to the Description further down the page

Are they required to?  Sometimes I see it there and sometimes I don't.

Are you saying that even though on my end, it says "Payment Received," under my orders, it doesn't mean the seller has yet gotten my money?  I'm talking about the little money icon right next to the other three icons: "Item has shipped", "Feedback needed", "Feedback Received".

@xnexus,

  "Then after the delivery date, the seller cancelled the sale. I got an email that in 3 to 5 days my money would be refunded. I was blocked from leaving feedback".

Because the seller had marked the transaction as Refunded, ebay's system sees it as not having been paid for, which blocks the leaving of feedback.  Had you filed an INR dispute the seller's refund would not have prevented you leaving feedback.

  "Then, why isn't Ebay refunding my money immediately? The deducted the money from paypal immediately. They are holding my money to make interest off it".

The way managed payment works, your PayPal payment is accepted immediately but it takes up to 3 days to be accepted by Adyen based in Holland and a few more after that to be deposited in a seller's account.  When a refund is sent now, it comes from Holland by ACH transfer and depending on when it is sent and processed by your bank, 3-5 days can pass. ACH transfers are not processed on weekends.   eBay is not holding your money and they cannot collect interest on the funds.

  " If I buy and pay for something I should be allowed to leave feedback. This seller gets away with wasting buyer's time".

If the seller has had issues with cancelling sales it should show up in their feedback profile. That's one reason why you should check feedback profiles before buying from any seller these days.

Yes, handling time is required and is built into the 'Expected Delivery Date' that is shown right below the 'Bid' or 'Buy It Now' Button. Many don't read that or the detailed written description and then send messages the next day asking for a tracking number.

Although buyer has paid immediately; Sellers do not get the $ in their banks until 2-6 days later, depending on day of week, holidays and bank speed.

@gresny83

You would be correct.  Sellers that are no longer allowed to have PayPal to receive funds, experience a few days delay with the Managed Payments process.   Newer or returning sellers have to wait until a few days after delivery is confirmed or 21 days.  It is possible as well that a seller that ships quickly will see their parcel arrive to their buyer before they see a dime of that money.

The other posters are correct in that in most instances eBay will no longer display a handling time.  This is in favor of an "estimated delivery date" that serves to encourage a buyer to purchase.

Re: Ebay allows sellers to WASTE buyer's time and tie up their money

I am not entirely certain which specific transactions qualify, but I believe that some transactions are still eligible for feedback even after the transaction has been cancelled -- it may depend upon the exact reason chosen for the cancellation.

Try the following link and see if the transaction appears, and if it allows you to leave feedback:

Right, and I'm saying that I know where to look, but it simply doesn't show up.  Sometimes I can find it under Shipping and Payments next to the Description, but usually not.

I never see it show up where you're pointing at.  Maybe the seller dashboard is different?

Re: Ebay allows sellers to WASTE buyer's time and tie up their money

Payment into your bank account doesn't show up anywhere, except in your bank.

All of this is really moot; as when a buyer buys and pays, the seller should be shipping. The 'lag' is typical and is how Retail selling has worked both on the internet and B&M Stores for decades. PP just spoiled us by fronting the $ in the sellers accounts well before they actually received the money from a buyers credit card company.

Waiting to ship only hurts you selling compared to A.) all other websites B.) Other sellers here who do it correctly and ship before actual $ is in bank (can use the customers/buyers 'pending funds' to pay for the shipping labels so no $ is needed up front).

Like many others, I've never NOT received my money from a sale after a buyer has paid. Buyers have no way of 'stopping' the payment once done and the MP system does not take funds that are not approved (banks, debit, credit cards etc.- similar to when a B&M store would get a 'phone authorization' for a customers credit card purchase, right in front of the buyer in line at the store). They can obviously ask to cancel (sellers choice) or they can force a return (whether you take them or not), but that's for another discussion.

@stainlessenginecovers

It just seems to me that eBay's "lag time" is often a bit excessive.  Having had a retail B&M merchant account for over 20 years, my funds were in my bank account the next business day, even way back when.  My present website payment provider deposits my money the very next business day without fail.
