Dyson Vacuum Scam on eBay Summary Page

There was a large field posted at the top of my eBay summary page today saying that I had a 'Prize' waiting. It looked to be a part of the eBay page, and since I trust eBay and have been on it since very early on I thought this was probably legit and clicked on it. The 'prize' offer claimed to be from Dyson. For filling out a few 'survey' questions and clicking on one of 4 boxes to redeem my 'prize' it said I was going to get a new Dyson vacuum for only $3.95 shipping. Normally I would go NOWHERE near this, but as it appeared to be through eBay I proceeded. When I got through all the smoke and mirrors I immediately got a scam alert text from MasterCard. There was an order of over $100 for some sort of arthritis cream or something piggybacked on the alleged Dyson 'prize' and the Dyson end of the deal went from $3.95 to $39.95!! So over $140--a total ripoff. I told Mastercard to cancel all of it immediately. WHY IS EBAY ALLOWING A TOTAL SCAM LIKE THIS TO APPEAR ON THE SITE??? It's a TOTAL RIPOFF and it is right there on my legit eBay account summary page! EBay needs to get on this ASAP.  BEWARE!!!!

Sounds like a GOOGLE pop up click bait ad thingy.

Re: Dyson Vacuum Scam on eBay Summary Page

I, too, fell for this scam! I paid the $39.95 on February 24 and never received the Dyson vacuum. I also believed it was legit, because it was on eBay. Buyer beware! if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is a scam. I learned my lesson, but eBay should not allow this on their website, as it discredits them and hurts eBay's reputation.

Re: Dyson Vacuum Scam on eBay Summary Page

That might not have been part of the eBay page. Sounds more like a pop up scam ad.   Clear your cookies and run a malware scan on your computer as only a few have reported it. It could be targeted.

If you paid using Paypal you have 180 days to claim a refund.

The PP Resolution Centre is under Activities at the top of your PP account page.

If you used your credit card, phone about a chargeback.

Ebay has absolutely no control over malicious pop-ups that appear on its site. As recommended, you need to immediately run a malware scan on your computer.

Re: Dyson Vacuum Scam on eBay Summary Page

Today I received a pop-up after I clicked on tracking of order.  The pop-up said I had a free gift

worth 749.95 dyson vacuum cleaner.    After reading about scams I decided not to fill out the

survey for the gift.  Thanks for the info. It always pays to fact check if it sounds too good.

Re: Dyson Vacuum Scam on eBay Summary Page

That's the first red flag  " a 'Prize' waiting ".  It's  a scam waiting for your credit card info.
