Does anyone else object to the new policy of having to submit PayPal/CC info before making an offer?

I am wondering if anyone else objects to eBay's new policy of being forcing account holders to submit their PayPal/Credit Card information before they are able to make an offer.

Have there been widespread protests regarding this new policy?  Or have most people shrugged their shoulders and turned over their payment information without a murmur?

I ask because I am not a fan of this new policy (to say the least) and am starting to wonder if eBay has, perhaps, reached the point where being on the site is more trouble than it is worth.  Frankly, I am having a difficult time understanding why I simply cannot pay for an item after my offer has been accepted just as I have been doing for the past two decades.

No,  it’s a sellers choice in buyer requirements. It prevents unpaid items.
Not all sellers utilize this option.

They instituted this policy because many people DON’T pay after they accept an offer. I’m not sure where you can buy something without paying for it?

I think it is great. My listings are set to “immediate payment” however if I send someone an offer, or someones makes an offer” the buyer has been known to not pay. As I have said for years this is not layaway. You want it, you pay for it then, just as quickly as you would like it to be shipped.

Not many of my listings have OBO, but I'm all for the new feature as a seller. As a buyer, I pay immediately anyway.

What difference does it make when it's paid for?

This way, the seller doesn't have to wait to see if buyer is going to pay.

Have a great day.

In 20 years on ebay I've never had an unpaid item, if I see payment info is required to make an offer I hit the back button. Ebay also pre-authorizes the amount which means it remains pending for a week even if the offer is not accepted.

Until ebay can guarantee everything I pay for will be shipped and exactly as described, buyer's should not have to guarantee anything either, it's a 2 way street. Isn't buyer preference settings supposed to weed out non-payers, 2 strikes and your out? Meanwhile buyers can't get a simple sellers block list to block deadbeat sellers.

I just had to wait aprox. 3 weeks for my money to be refunded on two items through the MBG, where-as a seller only has to wait 4 days to relist the item and didn't have to jump through hoops for it.

It's great for sellers  who want immediate payment, but annoying for buyers.  I'm not a fan of it when buying something.

It's  a test program. Some buyers are in the test program, some are not. Not everyone pays when their offer is accepted.

Some like it. Some don't like it. Some don't care either way.

We just recently had a "buyer" (offer maker) grousing about this policy. They wanted to be able to think about their decision to purchase "after" an offer was accepted by a seller.

I encountered the problem before, if you try to purchase two items from a seller each item requires "Immediate Payment" when making an offer. How do you get combined shipping?  I think the answer is, you don't.  You have to buy each separately and pay the shipping twice and they will send in one package.  That's one reason I don't like this as a buyer.  Same goes for trying to buy three or more items from the same seller. Also you have to fill out all the CC info too.

The only problem with this is if you want to buy a few items and need combined shipping. It's great because so many buyers do not pay.  Ebay needs to tweak this and add a button if the buyer wants to make an offer or buy another item from the same seller.

There are just way too many deadbeats here.

So what's wrong with the 2 unpaid strike rule in buyer preferences to block buyers, is that not effective enough? Do you think it's ok to post a pending charge for a week for offers that were never accepted? A seller should have to wait 4 days for payment if a buyer has to wait on average 3 weeks for a refund when dealing with deadbeat sellers. Seems like a double standard.

And they shouldn't force this on buyers that always pay. Like I said before. I'll hit the back button.

I would much rather see ebay do something about the fake tracking #/same zip scam to protect buyers more easily w/o all the hoops.

That means two sellers get buyers who don't pay before this works.  I've seen sellers who relist items 3 times with different buyers who make offers and never pay.  It can get frustrating. It all depends on what you sell on how many non payers you get in my opinion but I can definitely understand it in those categories. Including categories that may be high end that are prevalent to the trying to send a fake payment notification.  Even if you know not to fall for the fake payment you end up with buyers constantly ending your items and having to wait to relist to get someone who will actually pay.

So why don't the sellers that prefer this simply counteroffer for the same amount as buyers offer or higher requiring immediate payment to accept the offer? I just had that happen to me today and I purchased the item. Seems pretty simple to me, but pre-authorizing the charge when making the initial offer is not happening. I also like to review and double check everything before hitting the submit button, we all know ebay has many gliches
