I’m buying a truck from Craigslist and paying through eBay with eBay cards is this a scam

Yes. Scam. Very Old One. Repeated for years.

YES!  If the listing didn't originate on ebay, it has nothing to do with ebay.  This is a common scam.

This is an old, old scam.  There is no truck.  There is no person named whatever name is being used (nearly always a female name).  The sob story that explains the truck's too-good-to-be-true is a lie.  If you continue with this, you will be sent faked "invoices" and bogus "receipts."  eBay is not involved in this in any way, shape, or form.  Credit cards are untraceable, the money paid for them is unrecoverable.  You won't have a truck or your money if you fall for this.

DO NOT purchase the gift cards!

If you already bought the cards … then DO NOT give the scammer the codes from the cards.

You can use the gift cards to buy stuff on eBay … but they are worthless if you revealed the codes to a scammer.  Your money would then be gone forever.

You are being scammed.  No legit seller wants ebay gift cards. Ebay never has stuff on Craigslist.  You need to buy a truck?  Make sure that you test drive it and check it out before you pay for it. If you want to buy a truck on ebay,  go to ebay.  ONLY buy from a seller with lots of feedback selling vehicles.  There is NO buyer protection when you buy a vehicle so at least get it checked out by a mechanic if you can't be there in person.

Any request from a seller for gift card codes is a scam.

Thanks for catching that, and correcting it.  Along with the rest of me, my copy-editing skills are deteriorating.

It also should read "too-good-to-be-true price," but the word "price" was left out.

There is absolutely NO connection between eBay and Craigslist -- NONE.

If you purchased eBay gift cards, do NOT give the numbers to ANYONE connected with this scam.

There is NO truck -- this is a phony ad!

YES!  It's one of the biggest scams going.  eBay never assists in sales or payments of items on other sites. An item has to be listed on eBay to be an eBay sale.  There is NO other way.  eBay will never tell you to buy or pay with gift cards. How you pay is left to you.
