Buyer received fake Dooney and Burke handbag, #193730437604. Seller wants it back. What do I do?

Simply put, I bought a Dooney and Burke handbag based on poor photos. When it came it was obviously plastic. The seller wants it back but I’m not sure what I should do legally. Item 193730437604. Thanks!

As an owner of tons of D and B, many, and I mean MANY of their purses, handbags, lunchbags, etc are made of plastic.

And no, you shouldn't get a refund and keep the handbag just because you state it's a fake Dooney.

File a return, print out the shipping label and mail it back.  You're not illegally mailing counterfeits to scam people, you're returning a not as described item back to the merchant.

uh, just file a return request and mail it back if the seller wants it back....?  as long as it's a return, the label will be processed as a return and therefore of no consequence to you as far as shipping a fake item because you'd only be returning it.

You need to go through the Ebay Return Request process.
Go to your My Ebay page >> Purchase History >> find the item, then click on "Return item" in the drop down menu on the right. Follow the instructions, make sure you specify the reason why you are returning the item. You should be provided with a return shipping label. If not, a few days later you can return to your Return Request details and click on the link to have Ebay step in to help you.

All you need to do is return the handbag in order to get a full refund of your purchase cost and any shipping cost (if any) cost that you paid.

Another D&B collector here.
D&B make leather bags, but also cloth and "vegan leather" (plastic) bags.

How was the bag described? If it was not called leather, you don't have a case, although I agree that the material should be described not avoided.

But return the bag, you don't want it, it's probably not counterfeit(which seems to be your implication), it is legal to ship it (which would not be true of counterfeits), and if you don't return it you will not be refunded.

While that bag is filthy, I doubt it's a fake

Okay I have to ask, Why are you questioning if you should return the item? Would you go to Target and say I don't want this item because it isn't what you described but I also don't want to give it back?

Selling fake items is illegal and eBay wants it stopped. Several years ago I received a fake handbag through eBay. I sent photos to eBay and they agreed with my assessment. I was reimbursed and told by eBay to destroy the bag. I was told not even to give it to Goodwill. I just wanted to check current policy.

BTW the handbag was obviously fake and good photos would have revealed that. No expertise needed. But the photos were poor.  And vintage Dooney and Burke were not made of plastic but excellent quality leather. That’s why they are still valuable. And I have a lot of them! The newer ones are not as high a quality leather.

Who did you speak with at eBay

Are they an expert to correctly id bag as fake?

Are you an expert on these bags?

 eBay  REPs  tells you what you want to hear to get a member off the phone

current policy

Ask the seller if they will accept a return

Return the bag to the seller on their dime to get a refund 

if you get refunded seller should get their item back period

it is just as bad to keep the bag and the money

Return the bag is my advice open a return and if seller wants the bag back return it

If seller refuses return do whatever you want with it
