Yesterday I purchased a pair of pants from an ebay seller. I paid, plain and simple. Then I go and look at my feedback received, and here is this totally annoying feedback that had been left for me
(♥).•*´¨`*•♥•(・・)MORE AWESOME FINDS @ XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.COM•(♥).•*´¨`*•♥•(・・)
Sellers name removed by me. Does anyone find this irritating. It is an advertisement for the seller's business, and has nothing to do with the transaction. Sorry, just venting, but proper feedback is appreciated. This seller does this for every sale she makes.

Do you have any idea how/why that happened? [I'm trying to understand what the heck eBay is doing to feedback lately.]
Oh I didn't do any 'going to hell' feedbacks. I was just laughing along with wastingtime101 about the spastic zealot reply his seller left in response to .... well see for yourself; it's all in the paragraph of his that quoted above my reply.
Anyway, I checked on what (I think?) you're talking about. I didn't go through all the pages of my feedback left for others, but I found 2 blank ones in the first 7 pages or so. Here's an example of what I think you meant. If you'll notice, it says (private) for that buyer. But that is just in substitution for the color star. I don't even remember what those colors are supposed to signify and I don't think hardly anybody does, since I never see anyone mention it in discussions.
But anyway it is definitely kind of weird that it goes to (private) and also shows only "--" for my comment ..... I guess just because that buyer has their feedback set to private. But why is it private on MY 'left for others' page, when the buyer's name is already disguised?
Very weird. Hey @wastingtime101 do you know if this ^ is a new (redundant) privacy measure, or just something neither houseofpaws nor I ever noticed before?

It looks like the positive rating was removed along with the advertising. That’s odd.
As to your question: I have what many would consider an irrational dislike for most forms of advertising. I’ve always thought it looked dumb and silly for designers to put their logos all over handbags and polos … and would never buy or wear one. [I replace the free, license plate holder with the car dealership name on it after buying a car.]
It’s annoyed me when eBay sellers gave me similar feedback to yours … but not enough to go through the trouble to request removal, as I only have to look at it once.
@house*of*paws wrote:Do you know why the entire feedback was removed? It's the first time I've known that to happen when a member requests removal of the comment. Usually, the old comment is replaced with 'dashes' (---). You should NOT have lost the positive feedback.
[And, yes ... I consider it an advertisement as well.]
No, the positive rating is still there. (You have to sort by most recent.)

If a buyer has private feedback, the feedback sellers leave for them shows as dashes.

Why did that even become a thing? If anything it should default to "Most recent", but as usual ebay chose to do the opposite.

@gurlcat it's not new for private FB to appear as --.
If my memory is correct, you used to be able to see the comment on your own FB left for others page since you wrote it, but you could not see the comment on the buyer's FB page even though you wrote it.
It could be masked on your FB left for others tab because of the buyer ID being masked. Did you notice that? We don't know if it's intentional or an error. If you want to discuss that further there is an existing thread linked below and it's a great question if you want to tag the eBay team to see if they can answer the "intentional or error" question for us. I'd be interested in a response from eBay.

Thank you. I don't think I'll do any digging on it. It was just something @house*of*paws noticed and asked about.

Do you get upset when you go to a mall and end up with shopping bags with the stores names on them? Isn't that about the same thing as getting a feedback with a sellers name in it?
You could report the seller for posting the store name with a .com address, in their feedback. That is not allowed by ebay since it directs people off this site. First you would need to see if using the address takes you away from ebay to an off ebay store, or if it just lists available products from them you can buy on ebay.

Thanks @albertabrightalberta , but it wasn’t the ‘dashes’ I was curious about. It was the lack of a ‘rating’ … i.e., no donuts. I hadn’t seen feedback without a rating before.
[BTW, some feedback I left and received was turned into dashes when the item I purchased was an OTC medicine.]

Although this is slightly off-topic from the feedback discussion regarding "--" being left, I found more weird feedbacks that I'd never seen before, with not only buyer ID redacted (normally done but not with dashes) but the feedback comment removed as well as the item title and item number.
This particular seller had quite a few of these feedbacks interspersed with "normal" feedback and in fact, there was one similar with a neg rating.
Does anyone have an explanation for this?

It's also annoying when I make a purchase and the seller puts religious or political pamphlets in my package. They go straight in the recycle bin and the seller does not get FB from me.
When packing there used to be only one thing that I avoided in case some took offence. I scrunch up newspapers to fill in parcels so I took care not to include any "page 3's". Here in the UK the national newspaper The Sun always had on its page three a topless woman.
I *definitely* try to avoid mixing up those religious pamphlets and Chick tracts with those Girl on Page 3s. I've really kicked myself when I've accidentally done it.

@wastingtime101 wrote:The ".com" part is not allowed because it's off-eBay advertising and that's the only reason eBay removed it from your FB page.
That point aside, I don't see a problem with the FB. It's similar to "thank you, come again" which is pretty standard for businesses salutation at buyer checkout. A similar practice in physical stores is to give buyers a branded shopping bag for their purchase as opposed to a plain, unmarked bag. Advertises ones store when the buyer walks around with a branded shopping bag and, again, fairly standard practice. 🤷
Same. I ordered something from a Japanese webstore a couple of weeks ago and it showed up with a cute little card in the package thanking me for my purchase and saying they hoped I would come back and buy again. It's very common.
