Hi ebay users,
I am writing this to express my sadness with an ungraceful purchase experience. I am hoping if someone can tell me if I deserve such toxic communication for just buying things on ebay.
Little background, as an ebay plus buyer, I usually will given 5 stars positive feedback unless I received something either damage or wrong and seller not willing to either accept returns for a full refund OR only willing to refund partly. Basically I never rate neutral or negative to sellers for anything regards postage unless no proof of shipment and item not arriving for 8 weeks or more.
I believe we are all suffering postage delay due to lockdown this year, international and national the same. So base on this , I will not really expecting anything on time, because I understood the "estimate delivery time" is actually generated by ebay , it's not from the seller hand-filled information.
I guess during 2020 until now, there are many scam seller on Australian ebay and I do believe many buyers might already aware this, so my feedback usually would point out the fact on what I experienced. Especially for those I had to leave negative feedback.
So above is the background for this case I am bringing up.
I had lately brought something on ebay around second week of September 2021 Local Sydney, basically I am expecting at least 3 week in delay during this year many lockdowns happening, so I am not fuss about delivery at all, but at least I want to see a tracking number listed on an item that I had pay for postage cost.
I had pay for an item and postage cost from a seller, on the same day I had also purchase a lot more things from other LOCAL seller, few days after payment been made, all of the seller that I had brought from, had already uploaded a tracking number which shown a tracking history when I click on the link.
Only this seller not posting any postage on it, but I was thinking they might need more turn around time as we are all in a critical situation due to Covid. So I had waited 7 days to send them an email in purpose to just ask for postage information. Below is what I wrote for the first email.
Hi seller , hope you are well. Can I please have shipping information, if no tracking number available, can I please have proof of postage.
Thank you and good day.
then in 3 days later , below is what the seller wrote in response:
Hi
Your items were posted from Perth on 1 October and sent in a padded envelope addressed to:
XXX
I don't have a tracking number or proof of postage for you. I find this an unusual request at this late stage, some 6 days after buying your items. Perhaps you should have made your request at the time of purchase and I could have taken a photo of your envelope and sent it to you.
I note from your feedback you leave for other sellers that you are highly critical of postage times. Please understand that once your envelope is posted in the mail box it is out of a sellers hands as to how many days Australia Post will take to deliver it to you.
Kind regards
So from the first feeling , this seller is not nice to say something like that, and I was offended that this seller had pull in criticise on what I wrote for other bad seller at the past. I would accept the first paragraph and just leave it as is if they did not wrote the second paragraph.
So below is what I wrote in response :
Thank you for your response in regards to this matter. Reason I rise this question instead of a "request ", because I didn't expect there will be no tracking number for a paid postage purchase , and until days with no update, as I been patient to wait for that long to rise a question to ask about postage information that should be provided to me.
I usually leave 5 star positive comment to those seller whom is honest and nice, by all means , there is no need that you express your criticism on my feedback to other scammy seller. You don't even know how bad is the purchase experience I suffered from those scammer seller!
Its understandable the postage will be late, we are lockdown, I am not tracing you or pushing you for postage, just questioning to get information in purpose to back up and ref , if the parcel got lost , so then I can have at least some information to talk to Aus-Post! this is the whole purpose for me to tried get some postage information from the sender!
What I wrote in all comments , positive and negatives for all purchase I had made, is the real fact for what had happened, this is not so-called "critical" . It is RUDE of you to even say that to a customer.
But anyway, if the package arrived , and the stock is what you had listed and what I had paid for, you will have 5 starts positive feedback, although you are rude!!!
And I thought this could put a stop for this foolish toxic matter, few hours later, the seller comes back with more worse rudely response. I feel that I had been abuse and offended.
Below is what they wrote:
From your 5 para response I can only guess that someone at some stage has rained on your parade and now every seller gets tarred with the same brush.
Calling me rude makes me feel sad for you as I was only pointing out the fact that a seller can not be held responsible for how long it takes Australia Post to deliver your item. You mention postage times in nearly all of your feedback and yet you miss the point of who is responsible for that. Your lack of understanding and attitude is definitely un-Australian and I would even hazzard a guess that you are not.
Kind regards
Thank you for your time to read all these. ^^

Firstly , big thanks to all users had kindly spend time and share their thoughts on this matter, I appreciated it. I admitted there might be a misunderstanding in communication due to my English is lack of fluent , but I am sure this seller is not nice and too subjective on me, this is uncomfortable still. But I am not intent to do anything unfair.
For those who are interested what comment I wrote in all my purchase transactions, I am happy to share it, I did tried to do screenshots and paste it here, but this chat room aren't allowing me to do it, I did tried few times, it either not success me to sent the reply out or deleted the screenshot.
So therefore, I like to copy paste the recent feedback here and I strongly believe none of you would have the same thought with the seller that I deal with. A bit of background story here, as I had mentioned in the board post , I don't give out negative feedbacks unless when the case are extreme. I had 857 purchase transactions for the pass 7 years , only 3 negative feedbacks had given out , due to : Seller sent me damaged item but not willing to refund or keep offering partly refund, sending me 10 emails a day, and end up have to get ebay involved and waited another 15 days in total to get my full refund back / Seller never sent out the item, keep lies on going everyday saying it had been posted but no postage tracking provided when the item cost $560AUD and end up waited 45days no postage received and ebay refund me the money / Seller sent me a wrong item not willing to refund. I believe I did the right thing to rate these 3 sellers a negative but I been criticised by the current seller that I deal with as an " critical " buyer on postage.
So therefore, if you still have time and interest to see what I wrote, below is the fact, there is no need for me to make things up. I don't gain any pride by using a brand new account to make this post here.

I think you're being a little too sensitive and there was nothing in their response that referred to race. Move on.
10-07-2021 12:19 PM
Seems like I may dense, but can you point out the racism? Do you mean the part where the seller said "un-Australian"?
Furthermore, sellers are not required to get tracking or to share the tracking number.
Again, I may be dense, but don't see the point of the back-and-forth communication.
All those paragraphs and I still can't figure out if you've received the item in question.
Have you read the Money Back Guarantee?

TL;DR "I made a mistake and want to make it the sellers fault somehow"

Hi Sho.maryl
Thank you for your respond, I find it very waste of time to keep response them, but I am OCD, I must answer a question. No , I haven't received the item yet, I guess it might be a little different in Australia EBAY, as the policy clearly say that seller must upload a PAID postage tracking information , for those FREE postage, yes they not really have to update it tho.
Am I too sensitive ? Both myself and this seller are in Australia , and obvious we are locals , the line "Your lack of understanding and attitude is definitely un-Australian and I would even hazzard a guess that you are not."
This line they wrote had blow me away , or am I getting it wrong ? I find this is very offens to say tho .

Thank you for your response, so Your lack of understanding and attitude is definitely un-Australian and I would even hazzard a guess that you are not.
This is not racist ???
10-07-2021 12:30 PM
You need to take a chill pill. What racism? What rudeness? I see none of either, just a seller stating the facts.
Good grief. But, anyway, thanks for posting.
10-07-2021 12:34 PM
As an Australian, maybe you felt that being called "anti-Australian" was insulting to you, but labeling it "racism" was just plain silly.
So Australian eBay requires that the seller MUST upload tracking information, when the US does not?
Had no idea.
10-07-2021 12:36 PM
No. This is not racist. Not by a long shot.
10-07-2021 12:37 PM
What MISTAKE I had made ??? I just ask for postage information !
10-07-2021 12:44 PM
Thank you for at least listening to me, I am not hunting for support here, just using my best language to wrote out what had happened.
Thank you for having a third party point of view on the " anit-Australian" issue, this really blow me away for a matter of nothing really should be included in a conversation that we are talking about postage with the seller.
Yes, I am also an Ebay seller, so therefore I totally understand how hard it is in Australia ebay, I do notice different country of ebay, they had different rules.
Re postage tracking , yes, if the buyer paid postage , seller have to upload the tracking number, so happen that in Australia , there are so many small courier company that update tracking VERY slow, so information is lacking and some buyer does get very mad. BUT I am not that type of buyer, all I am asking is a postage tracking number, because I had paid the post cost, which means, the seller MUST provide proof of postage.
I had given 7 days patient for not pushing them to upload it, leave it chill until I really see nothing , so just to ask information for it.
I was explaining why I am asking for the information , I did not ever mean to against the seller at all until they being RUDE.

Australian is a race?
The next time someone calls me un-American for disagreeing them, boy, will I have a snappy comeback!

Actually, I don't believe Australian is a race. If I'm not mistaken, it would be classed as a nationality. However, from what I know of Australia, its population is made up of more than one race and/or ethnic background as is most other member countries of the British Commonwealth. As is, indeed, my country, the USA. Thus, I don't see the statement that you quoted as being racist.
When it comes to particular customs in countries in different parts of the world, I've found that there are many that even among people that speak a common language can seem odd and be misunderstood quite easily. Perhaps, we need to grow a bit of a thicker skin and not jump to playing the race card too quickly.

I have to agree with others that the seller was not being racist.
As far as asking for proof of shipping, I have shipped items out without tracking and it has never occurred to me that I needed some sort of 'proof'. Taking a picture of the envelope would only prove that I put the address and stamps on the envelope..not that anything was actually shipped.
I can't find any reference to Australia sellers being required to provide tracking unless the shipping is 'free'. Do you have a reference to that?
It seems odd if that is the case as shipping is never actually free and usually if the item doesn't have an additional shipping cost added to it, the seller has already included it within the item price. To either way the buyer is paying for shipping.
