This is the second time now that I’ve been overcharged (by $21) for a label through EBay intl shipping. Somewhere in the process my package gets weighed incorrectly and at a higher weight. Not sure if it’s someone at EBay or if it’s the country of origin. Has this happened to anyone else? After the first time I started taking a picture of the package sitting on the scale. Though it’s mostly for my records as there’s nowhere to send this “proof” to eBay. The CS rep I talked to today told me I need to be more careful when weighing my items and to round up. But I always weigh things accurately. It’s someone else along the way that’s making the mistake but it’s hard for me to prove that as the rep only knows what they see.

@imaginaryfriend03 Are you also entering the correct dimensions by rounding up? Size of the package affects the weight too.
Try weighing your package at the post office lobby scale to verify that your scale is working correctly.
Personally I prefer the global shipping program. Then you are only responsible for the item arriving safely to Kentucky.

Yes I round up on everything and have verified my scale is accurate. I guess that’s what I meant-I use the eBay global shipping. This package was sent to eBay via usps priority mail and then was routed to Mexico. The package weighed only 15.6 ounces yet eBay states it was 3.4 lbs which is impossible. The last time this happened the package was under 4 ounces but I put 8 ounces and eBay told me it was over 3 lbs which was also impossible. Something incorrect is happening on the eBay side.

@imaginaryfriend03 That is odd. If you are using eBay global shipping then you ship to Kentucky,
If there is a package weight discrepancy hen you can dispute it with USPS. I have won every case where USPS said I had the wrong weight. It's only happened a few times in 10 years thankfully.
If you are using eBay International Standard delivery then I am not sure where the forwarding hub is but ship to that location and they do weigh and measure the package and update it. This sounds like the shipping method you are using,

@imaginaryfriend03 Looking at your listings eBay International Standard delivery is the shipping method you are using.
I also noticed you are shipping comics media mail which may or may not be adding to your shipping problems. Per USPS comics do NOT qualify for media mail.

I know a lot of other sellers violate this policy but it's not a good idea to follow their example.

Ok just checked the label and it went to florida first. I never have any issues with USPS so I’m not convinced it’s happening there. I think it’s either at the eBay warehouse or at the origin country (if they weigh it again for customs or whatever). Otherwise I would assume eBay would tell me to talk to USPS. Last time I had to wait over a month and talk to multiple reps to get it sorted through eBay. This time I hope it’s not that complicated. Waiting for the refund which the rep said takes 7-10 days. But I’ve been told told that before and it never happens. It’s frustrating for me because I am very by the book and accurate. When I talk to the rep I feel like they think I’m trying to pull one over on them. I would never label a package as 1 lb if it was 3 lbs. or if it was 3 lbs I would have had the customer pay that amount as they paid for this shipping. A $21 dollar difference is big.

@imaginaryfriend03 I would suggest contacting eBay for business on FB as the sorting center in Florida are the ones that are weighing and changing the shipping price.
They are the best at dealing with this type of problem. Someone in Florida is leaning on the scale.

Ok I will do that. Thank you very much for your guidance!

@imaginaryfriend03 If the item is being repackaged by eBay's International hub then I would suspect the issue is with them. If it s YOUR package that goes the entire distance then it sounds like something else in the system is amiss. How much was the weight off?

Yeah, it went to their hub in florida first. The package when I weighed it was 15.6 ounces and EBay said it was 3.4 lbs. Such a big difference. I would love to know where this is happening because it’s such a pain to try to get it fixed and refunded. It took well over a month before I got my money back last time.

This is what I was told by eBay for business on fb. I have never heard this before and it’s absurd to be at the mercy of the warehouse to determine if I’ll have to pay more or not. I guess I just won’t ship internationally anymore. Not worth the risk.

@imaginaryfriend03. I recommend changing to the GSP then you won't have this problem. Plus they have better seller protection.

@imaginaryfriend03 Well, I can tell you that the difference between 3.4 lbs and 15.9 oz equates to about 2 lbs worth of packaging ... to quantify that for you it would be like these three corrugated boxes that I pulled out of my box bin ... the large one on the bottom of the stack would measure 17.5" x 11.5" x 10.5" when erected ... THAT is a LOT of cardboard ... whether it was a mistake or intentional, you my friend have been had.

How do I go about doing this? I didn’t realize I wasn’t using that when using eBay standard shipping. I read the FAQs but is there somewhere I have to opt in? Also this program uses actual weight and not billable weight as the other option apparently does?
07-29-2022 08:39 AM
Yeah it’s very frustrating. I messaged eBay for business on FB and they said the warehouse can use dimensional/billable shipping over actual weight and size if billable is more (they take LxWxH/166 to figure this out). There’s so much about that that is just wrong. How would I know in advance if my item would be purchased by an international person to even know if they should pay for standard or billable. Some of the things eBay does for a little extra money is laughable.
