I assume this was a bread box any ideas about age or country?

It is a bread box I am pretty sure but can I call this folk art due to the odd way its painted...any ideas to a possible year or country I know its a farm scene from somewhere not sure if its a boy or girl but the shoes suggest maybe dutch....any and all help greatly welcomed! the lid does open and shut in a roll type desk fashion

Toot painted bread boxes were popular in the 1930's to 1950's. If it were Dutch, I'd think the hat would be different. My guess would be Ohio or Pennsylvania.

Sorry, I meant "tole" painted and yes I would consider it a form of folk painting. True folk art is usually completely hand made. I'd assume the metal box is a manufactured piece and someone painted it. Hard to say if boy or girl, but I'd venture. Drummer boy.
