There are some counted cross stitch patterns being listed that are known to be an artist's work who has not given her permission to be used in this manner. Maybe everyone should check to see if yours or someone you know has their paintings being used too.

I don't in any way mean to insult people who really do have life-threatening or chronic illnesses, but missy played the cancer card in at least one of her feedbacks and it's also on her Me page. The mother in the mother-daughter team has also played the cancer card. She looks healthy as a horse, but uses the cancer defense to talk people out of filing disputes. She claims that needs the money for her cancer treatments, and people back off. -- Kathy "You know you're putting a good thing out into the universe when you put on glitter." ~ Drew Barrymore

It's illegal to sell bootlegs, counterfeits, fakes, replicas, or unauthorized or pirated copies of any product. In order to comply with the law, we don't allow these items to be offered on eBay. This policy also helps protect buyers from getting counterfeit or unauthorized goods, and helps protect people from copyright or trademark infringement. The minute the copyright notice from the owner of the stolen images is given to ebay, ebay then knows the images have been stolen. There are many laws that are then being broken, interstate trafficking of stolen goods, trafficking of stolen goods, perjury. Ignorance of the law is no defense.

I agree with Lynne in post 76. She doesn't strike me as a person I'd like to deal with, and have MY artwork images associated with. Some of the artists HAVE given their blessings and are sent 1/4 ly royalties. Sad world that artists live in at times. *sigh* Still, times are tough for all, and know that even a dollar or two can help pay bills. -- ~Jillian artist, Jillian Crider ... google me!

The minute the copyright notice from the owner of the stolen images is given to ebay, ebay then knows the images have been stolen. There's no question that she has broken the law, however, eBay rarely suspends accounts for this. Their answer is to remove the listing only. I'm certainly not defending eBay, just saying, that's how they do it. If your item is illegal (bootlegs, human organs, drugs, whatever), they will remove the item, not the seller. -- Kathy "You know you're putting a good thing out into the universe when you put on glitter." ~ Drew Barrymore

People who use the sympathy for illness line in their listings always send up a red flag. Like they're trying to "guilt" anyone who dares question their ethics.

I got one: I'm an eBay ACEO artist, pity me, starving to death, buy MY stuff! I've spent all my money on over priced Scooby toys for the kids and now need bill paying money! If I can just email my stuff, I can save on shipping, cuz even if it is free, I pay for it. I'd steal other fellow artist's work, if I were smart enough to do it, but it took me 3 months to figure out how to answer my email. I probably have numerous things wrong with me, but can't afford to go to the doctor to find out just what is wrong. I'm looking for compassionate caring people who easily believe ridiculous stories to send money. Perhaps, that will work. Lynne

UPDATE: Several of the listings have been removed. One member, whose art was being used, did direct contact her and listing was removed. Others were as well, but I'm not sure what caused that to happen. I know members were contacting each other and owners of listing artwork to alert unauthorized usage as well as VeRO complaints. So, it does appear, progress was made. Missy's idea is a marvelous one, she just needs to take the time to get permission or use free art, which there is plenty of, and do it the right way and avoid conflict, problems and complaints. Something has happened. She only sold one yesterday, and 2 the day before. Usually has hundreds. Also no new listings lately. I know of one artist with just one stolen work who did a vero, and it's now removed. -- ~Jillian artist, Jillian Crider ... google me!

Granted having to mail an actual package of some sort, rather than just emailing something not only costs more but takes more time to address, package, produce and mail. Having angry artist blowing up your time schedule and nit picking your listings with complaints is going to throw a wrench in the works, as well as threaten their livelyhood here. They really need to rethink how they do business, or their time will be spent addressing complaints and cases, instead of making money. I could not imagine having to deal with all of that negative stuff. Easier to fix it, make apologies and play by the rules. Hopefully, they will come to see it that way. Lynne

Are there really that many people doing counted cross stitch? I guess so . . . I used to do some, but it's been ages. -- -Ann ". . . except for drawdog, who is my new best glitter-covered friend." ~ mreas

There's not necessarily a huge corelation between buying supplies and patterns and actually using them. 🙂

Don't forget these cross stitch "patterns" are copies of other artists paintings on CDs or paper being sold without permission, with the signatures removed, and sometimes images are reversed to avoid easy detection too. Unless the seller owns the copyrights to an image they can not legally sell copies. I did not see any of the copied images by the seller in question shown as the squared off cross stitch patterns but only copies of other artists paintings were displayed. The seller must have been concerned her patterns would be copied. ]:)
