There are some counted cross stitch patterns being listed that are known to be an artist's work who has not given her permission to be used in this manner. Maybe everyone should check to see if yours or someone you know has their paintings being used too.

Thanks for the heads up! I don't see any of my designs there, but will check further.

A lot of them look suspicious to me - the ones that aren't a kit, just the pattern. Probably images lifted from Flickr, the internet or catalogs and run through a pattern-making program. -- -Ann ". . . except for drawdog, who is my new best glitter-covered friend." ~ mreas

Some seem to be vintage images, but there are several artists who are named in the listings, and according to the listings have given their permission. Some are photographs, like Ann said, run through a pattern program.

A Canadian artist who is listed as giving permission said she did not give her permission for all her paintings to be used and is now getting a lawyer to stop the use of her paintings this way. A different artist's name is cut off the bottom of her horse painting who did not give permission. So be aware that it is happening to fellow artists and we should look out for one another if we can.

If you know the artist, you can also let them know that they can have the listing removed by eBay by filing a Vero claim. It's a bit of a pain to do it, but the listing would come down. Make sure they also take a screen shot as proof in case the seller takes the listing down before they have a chance to go through legal channels.

I would recommend that anyone doing a VeRO NOT contact the seller and tip them off. That often gives the fraudster the chance to voluntarily remove the item, and eBay will then say the item has already been removed, hence, no strike against the seller. It's best to not contact the thief at all. File the VeRO paperwork, and let eBay put a strike on their account. Enough strikes and they'll lose their account. -- Kathy "You know you're putting a good thing out into the universe when you put on glitter." ~ Drew Barrymore

There's quite a few crosstitch patterns for sale. Are you not allowed to give the seller ID or should we just go through every listing? Curious because I know I sold an aceo to a cross sticher. I watched her listings for a while and never saw anything but now you've got up my curiousity.

Even with that information, it is still NO EASY TASK with 45 pages of listings.

She has a lot of equine art from Margaret Stockdale and she claims she has permission, I wonder if she really does? -- -Ann ". . . except for drawdog, who is my new best glitter-covered friend." ~ mreas

This one shows up on page one of a Google search for Rocky Mountain horse: http://cgi.ebay.com/ROCKY-MOUNTAIN-HORSE-CROSS-STITCH-PATTERN-/330402590333?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&ha... I betcha dollars to doughnuts she doesn't have permission from the original photographer to use this image. -- -Ann ". . . except for drawdog, who is my new best glitter-covered friend." ~ mreas

And (LOL) look at this one, you can see the hole at the top of the photo - she scanned a calendar page! http://cgi.ebay.com/GYPSY-VANNER-STALLION-CROSS-STITCH-PATTERN-/170295917453?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&h... And I bet Bob Langrish is the photographer. I see a lot of his work in calendars. He has photos of the same horse here: http://www.boblangrish.com/galleriesimages.php?id=42&sid=281 He also took photos of that Rocky Mountain horse. Ok, I'm done sleuthing and stirring up trouble. -- -Ann ". . . except for drawdog, who is my new best glitter-covered friend." ~ mreas

Yes, tineye. That is an excellent source for detective work. Yes, when veiwing listings looking for any that might be mine, as I was solicted many mths. ago, and that red light went flashing and I said NO. Scanning listings, I saw VINTAGE postcard/greeting cards, lots of Calendar images, Pinups that were Varga etc. as I was scrolling along. Not just old stuff though. Saw OUR stuff too.

On pages 22 & 23 she has a pig, a squirrel, a cat, etc that look cut-out, you know, with no background. I have seen these same images in a jigsaw puzzle catalogue that I get in the mail.
