What are the hardest things for you to draw?

For me it's people. I sweat bullets when someone asks me to draw or paint a person, especially if it's someone I know.

Oh my...this thread is so funny! Bank account...dead orphans...LOL! I despise straight lines. I know, get a ruler! But, I just finished a huge backdrop for my son's school play...set in Greece, with lots of columns....I think God was just having some fun with me when that project came along! Not to mention, the surface they gave me to paint on was a cheapo drop cloth with a fuzzy cotton-like texture. Straight lines! HAH! Let's just say it came out like Greek Toontown!

For Big straight lines you need a chalk line like builders use. Stretch it-snap it, then stay in the lines. I've even used one on small (22x30) paintings when the vanishing points are located way out of the format. Isn't there a $5 prize for helpful hints? mr

I have just finished my first commisioned portrait. I am just dreading them saying.. "What? This looks nothing like her! You ruined it!!!" Everyone here who has seen it says it looks fine and just like the woman in the photo, but the problem with photos is, they are so soulless, you know nothing of the personality of this person... I noticed in the picture that the woman in question had a lazy eye and a mole on her cheek... Now do I correct those minor imperfections or are they so much a part of her that no-one will recognise her without them. (I corrected the eye but lightly kept the mole) I don't do peole, I do pet portraits! But there was no telling this man, No I do pets... So then you could draw my wife... No, I do animals... pets. But you're so good at animals, I'm sure you could do my wife (er what are you saying about your wife?) In the end I relented, but I'm still not sure he'll like it.... Other than that.. I find cars, machines and the wall behind the radiator hard to paint. And I agree with the bait behind the toilet having recently redecorated my bathroom, but the wall behind the radiator was much harder.

Cats and people... but I actually can draw them better than I can paint them.

Hey, Mick...I left $5 for you right behind the toilet! Oh sorry...that's what my distinguished husband says to our son while exiting the bathroom....nevermind!

I'm terrified to do commissions..anytime anyone suggests it I lead the conversation in another direction. Its one thing if they like what you've already done, but they always look at my work and go.." wow! Do you think you could paint this!" And it will be something completely out of my genre. Do you walk up to a fantasy artist like me and ask them to paint a realistic fruit bowl?

Faces/Portraits are STILL the hardest things for me to draw. Oziskin, perfect circles used to be hard for me until I started using everything from a large bowl to a penny as an outline. ;-) Lanie
