Trying MSAgent In my Auctions

I've added a msagent (Merlin) to one of my auctions to see if it works, and would like to get some feedback. Especially from people who are on MAC's. Does it show up on the MAC? If you use Windows, do you also see it? (I'm not automatically downloading the agent(s), so I'm curious what happens. What do you think of this little addition. If anyone wants the code to do this just message me, and I'll send it to you. Here's the link to the auction.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270100054401 Thanks for looking... maggie2themax With your issue... I'm wondering if the agent is not even the issue with my site. I created a store yesterday, and also signed up the auctiva! I noticed that both of these added stuff to my auction site. My html part of the auction site downloads some graphics along with the larger copy of the card. I know this is a lot to ask, but could you try another one of my auctions (the MSAgent is only on this one for experiment)? How about. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&viewitem=&item=27009984494... It's another mermaid.... Thank You DraagonStorm

The image itself is 1050 x 750 pixels with a file size of over 500K. It doesn't show up that big, but still carries all that information. If you reduced a copy of the image by 50% and saved it as an optimized jpeg before uploading it you would reduce the file size to under 50k. Back in the old days (5 years ago) when the majority of folks were on dialup many designers tried to (some were required to) keep the whole page under 100k, including all images, graphics and code.

DraagonStorm, no offense, but I honestly don't want to deal with overcomplicated sites at all. I waited an entire minute just for that page to load, which doesn't sound like a lot of time, but you don't have constantly to deal with this like I do. Then the server disconnected me because of the downloading. Just trying to view the new listings at the groups to which I belong takes a VERY long time since each page can take over a minute to finally show it all. But those are worth it just for the pleasure of seeing the artwork. I usually only view the "new listings" discussion threads when I'm doing something else as well so the waiting time is put to some use. Waiting for pages to load is boring and frustrating. The main issue I have with what you are trying to do is that all that extra stuff loads BEFORE your image even shows up. I'm not interested at all in the extra do-dads, just the artwork that is suppose to be the reason for the listing in the first place. And I think a good number of others might feel the same as I do. As artists who are trying so hard to sell our work, we should make it as easy and simple as possible for anyone to see the listings. And I think the work itself should be the main focus. Too many frills may distract from it. I'm not even certain I'd like all the extras if I had a system that could handle it. I'm not a 'window shopping' kind of person. I generally only want to see whatever it is that I'm looking for without being sidetracked. But this is just the way I feel about it. maggieB

Oh, and I hadn't been disconnected or had problems viewing any other auctions since updating my system, only when trying to view yours, even those that run the dreaded slideshows. Even secure login pages webmail, etc. that had given me trouble before are running fine now. I haven't tried loading fancier pages, but then if they seem too complicated, I hit the "back" button right away. Like I said, just not interested in too much extra features. Personal preference. Might just have been a coincidence with your page, but....

It was just an experiment. But I understand what your saying maggie2themax, and your right! It really doesn't add anything of value to the listing, especially for dialup users :) mreas, I have been using DSL for over 5 years now, and have forgotten about file sizes. Thank you for reminding me of that issue. DraagonStorm

I decided to finally try to view a You Tube video that someone wanted me to see. It was only 10 minutes long, but last night it took almost 4 hours to load. Tried another today (I'm a glutten for punishment), about the same size, and it went faster. Only an hour and a half this time. 😄

Sleep deprevation from the adventure last night has effected my spelling. Should have been "glutton".

I hear ya, Maggie. We're still stuck with dial-up too. Hate it! I don't even try to look at any videos and I scream at my computer when someone has sent me a large e-mail attachment. -Ann
