I'm going to get to meet Betty White! I do pen & ink drawings on ostrich eggs for the Sacramento Zoo, they always order at least 10 every year for events, gifts, awards, etc. and I've been doing this for years and years. Here are some samples: www.annran.com/pages/eggs.htm Well, Betty White is going to be coming to the Zoo for some event next month and my Zoo buddies have asked me to do an ostrich egg for them to give to her. That's AWESOME Ann. I used to do volunteer work for the L.A. Zoo, years ago, before they started killing their elephants. I met her once at a zoo event. She is SUCH a nice lady. That's a nice little article. Betty White is a charming lady and I know you'll really enjoy meeting her. She's a class act, all the way, and does so much to help the animals. Interesting . . . what caught my eye was that the event is being held at the Murray E. Fowler Veterinary Hospital. Don't laugh, but one of my favorite books is a text book that I bought when I was in vet tech school, Handling and Restraint of Domestic and Wild Animals by Murray E. Fowler, so I immediately recognized the name. He must have been a very well known veterinarian, I guess, if he has a building named after him at the Sacramento Zoo. -- Kathy

What a small world, Kathy! Dr. Fowler taught at UC Davis and he and his staff/students took care of the Zoo's animals. Until the vet hospital was built on site, they had to make do with what they had at the Zoo or haul critters to Davis. Dr. Fowler has retired from practice and probably from teaching but still serves on the Zoo's board of directors. Super nice guy - I met him a couple of times when I worked at the Zoo. Betty White is a kick in the pants - I've seen her on talk shows, she's got a raunchy side too.
