I am wondering if someone can enlighten me to the rules of aceo and the signing of them. Is it a golden rule that the back of the aceo should be signed and dated?

This has been very interesting to read. I think from now on I'm going to include my location along with everything else. As for the COA's for 2D works, I agree with Adrienne. From a historical perspective what I have seen artists do, when they wished to personally provide added provenance, was write a letter detailing the work to the buyer which was also signed. I've seen this quite a lot when paintings are auctioned off.

Jillian,
Thanks for posting your COA. I do mine a bit like yours. ONe thing I did notice, and liked, was how you added the story of the piece to your COA. Some of my art has an important story and I was thinking about starting to put a little story on the back, along with all the other stuff I add on the back. Some art just might not have much of a story at all. What is everyone thoughts on adding a little paragraph, space permitting, on the back? I think it would be kind of cute. but maybe I'm just too corny! I haven't seen anyone else do that yet. Have any of you?
Sure, COAs are a bit unnecessary. And I don't think it really proves how "authentic" a piece of art is. But I like to receive them, and for some reason I find it important -to me- to add one with my cards. Probably the most important thing about it is to let those unaware people know that they don't own the copyright and can't do whatever they want with the image.

Nothing is going to stop any Joe Guy who just stole my image from printing up his own certificate, quite frankly. 😐

Yes, thank you to everyone. Very educational. I remember the days when "watermark" was something that was only found on an Intaglio. I guess I just dated myself about 30 years or so...
