Prayers for Ollie.....

Hi, All, We have had a very upsetting day....Oliver, (I've written about him here before, my "snuggle-baby" Ragdoll cat) got ahold of some plastic confetti strings, out of one of those party "poppers".....I have no idea where he found them, (we only had two of the "poppers", left over from a 50th birthday party my girls threw for their dad, my ex, last weekend. They thought that my 11 year old son, Jonathan, would have fun with them, and brought them over- they are both now blaming themselves) - as I try to be so diligent about keeping anything like that picked up/cleaned up, just like when I had little babies...... Anyway, I couldn't find Oliver this morning (he hadn't acted like anything was wrong), and when we did find him, hiding in an upstairs guestroom, he had BM all over his behind, with the strings in it - and was very lethargic (there was also an awful smell, worse than just "poo". I immediately called our vet, who was out on a call for a horse, so it took about 2 hours before he met us at the hospital. Ollie was in surgery for two hours, and our vet has just called me back, to tell me that he had passed all the string, but his bowel had "doubled back" on itself, and he had to remove an 8" section that was necrotic (thus the odor) - he came through the surgery okay, and is on massive antibiotics, but the bad part is that the doctor saw two other "dark" areas, that may or may not clear up, that he said he was "gravely" concerned about. We will know in a couple of days, but if they "necrose", we will lose Ollie - cats don't have enough length of intestine to take a lot out, and he is at the max, now. I had contacted Karen earlier about her Maine Coon babies; I hope that wasn't "intuition" or a "premonition" on my part.....I could never replace Oliver; he is such a love!...... Anyway, I know a lot of you are kitty-lovers, and we need lots of prayers....Ollie's chances aren't great, and we need all the "help" we can get....(I hope I haven't been too graphic and grossed anyone out)~ Thank you, Everyone... We've just come from seeing Ollie~ he's getting stronger every day! 🙂 He's still at the vet's (they aren't charging me now for keeping him - only if they've done a test that had to be sent out to another lab)they have just wanted to watch him really closely, (which was fine with me!)~ he started eating again after the second day on Clavimox (an antibiotic) and Dr.Lawrence gave him barium yesterday for x-rays, then showed them to me this morning~ everything looks good; he has a narrow secum (which could cause some digestive problems), but that is something he was born with, not from the surgeries. So~ so far so good! ~ he'll come home in a few days (then I'll be paranoid again!) Flu is better~ Thank you for asking!~I feel like I lost about a week, though. Prayers work! Anne (& Ollie >^..^<) 🙂

Just wanted to let everyone know, Ollie is home! (Again!)~ the others are hissing at him some (I gave them ALL baths when I brought Ollie home....the rest are probably blaming that on him, too! 🙂 ~but it is getting better. He is eating, and I'm trying hard not to obsess over how much he eats; he was eating fine at the vet's, so after a month, I have to think that any food issues at home are social, and he will work them out. I have several dishes throughout the house so he doesn't always have to go to the kitchen if he doesn't feel comfortable about going past the others, or whatever, and I've seen him eating out of those. It's going to take a while for him to be back to "himself"...if you saw him and didn't know, you would think he was a very elderly cat - thin, and sort of funny-looking from all the places that were shaved! But, I am so grateful to have him with us still, I don't care how he looks~ Thank you all again for all the prayers and good wishes...I know it affected the positive outcome greatly!!
