Prayers for Ollie.....

Hi, All, We have had a very upsetting day....Oliver, (I've written about him here before, my "snuggle-baby" Ragdoll cat) got ahold of some plastic confetti strings, out of one of those party "poppers".....I have no idea where he found them, (we only had two of the "poppers", left over from a 50th birthday party my girls threw for their dad, my ex, last weekend. They thought that my 11 year old son, Jonathan, would have fun with them, and brought them over- they are both now blaming themselves) - as I try to be so diligent about keeping anything like that picked up/cleaned up, just like when I had little babies...... Anyway, I couldn't find Oliver this morning (he hadn't acted like anything was wrong), and when we did find him, hiding in an upstairs guestroom, he had BM all over his behind, with the strings in it - and was very lethargic (there was also an awful smell, worse than just "poo". I immediately called our vet, who was out on a call for a horse, so it took about 2 hours before he met us at the hospital. Ollie was in surgery for two hours, and our vet has just called me back, to tell me that he had passed all the string, but his bowel had "doubled back" on itself, and he had to remove an 8" section that was necrotic (thus the odor) - he came through the surgery okay, and is on massive antibiotics, but the bad part is that the doctor saw two other "dark" areas, that may or may not clear up, that he said he was "gravely" concerned about. We will know in a couple of days, but if they "necrose", we will lose Ollie - cats don't have enough length of intestine to take a lot out, and he is at the max, now. I had contacted Karen earlier about her Maine Coon babies; I hope that wasn't "intuition" or a "premonition" on my part.....I could never replace Oliver; he is such a love!...... Anyway, I know a lot of you are kitty-lovers, and we need lots of prayers....Ollie's chances aren't great, and we need all the "help" we can get....(I hope I haven't been too graphic and grossed anyone out)~ Thank you, Everyone... Oh how terrible. Our prayers are with you and Ollie. We had a similiar surgery with our yearling Morgan filly this past summer. They thought for sure she was not going to make it and she did. I am sending all her good luck vibes to Ollie. Lynn

Ollie is in my prayers. My Crystal had major surgery of a similar nature almost 12 years ago, and he's still going strong! /Karen

Sending lots of positive energy for Ollie! My cat also had a similar surgery about 12 years ago. But she was tough and pulled through. I also visited her every day at the vet (she was there for a week or 10 days). -Amy

Oh Anne, I'm so sorry. Poor Ollie. I will pray for Ollie. God loves all his creatures. I swear He kept my Tiger alive a whole year longer that she should have had because He knew I needed the time with her. I will pray very hard for Ollie. Accidents happen I pray you and your children have peace over this it is no ones fault. Unfortunately kitties can get a hold of things they shouldn't have. Mine have. hugs Judy K:x

Thank you, everyone, you can't imagine how much I appreciate all your encouragement!~ I just came from seeing Ollie; he hid his head in the crook of my arm like he normally does when he wants to hide from the world (of course no one can see him when he's hiding like that!) but he was still really groggy. They told me he would be like that for 24 hours, and the surgery was at 8 last night. His tummy and chest are totally shaved. The vet wasn't there, but his Dad, who helps him, was...he is very nice and very upbeat; he said his son was "fidgity" about the other spots on Ollie's intestine, but they were "going to do their very best, and hope for the best". It's still too early to tell, and it is so hard to wait :o(...! We're going back when Jonathan gets out of school. If you all want to see what Ollie looks like, just look at Nicole's "What a Good Bed" (I think that's what it's titled)...it looks just like his funny expression!
