I almost hesitate to reply to that one Donna, because I've been trying to teach someone recently how to use a simple point-and-shoot. The one I have that I've been very happy with is a Nikon Coolpix S6000, which is a simple but versatile machine.
I had an old Nikon Coolpix that I used a lot, about 7 years old, it just gave out recently. That was what sold me on the newer model.
Whichever type of camera you ultimately choose, I'd recommend looking at the prices on a site called New Egg. They have very fast delivery and the best prices on a lot of technology. My geek husband buys all his computer stuff there.
Warning: my sister-in-law tried to save ten bucks and bought from some shyster company in New York, and is fighting to get her money back because they sold her a refurb that they called new, when she paid for the price of a new camera. So check online reviews of sellers before buying anywhere!
