I DARE YOU...

Well, we knew it was coming. Artists with any sense of integrity, read no further. Here's the deal: you think of an idea for an aceo, the more absurd the better, and dare another artist to create that image. The artist lists that image, the dare-er is obligated to place the first bid. Issues to be resolved: Starting bid. It's been established that I'll pay to make an aceo for someone, while others start the bidding more becoming an artist with a modicrum of self-esteem. We could either establish a set beginning price, or have the price be negotiated beforehand. Before we make it official, any other ideas from the peanut gallery? harmoniousjosh http://harmoniousjosh.blogspot.com/

There might be artists who want to be dared, but never gets asked. To resolve that we could: Make a list of all who want to participate. Every participant must submit a dare, and be willing to be dared. The dares are passed out randomly. The generator of the dare is responsible for placing the first bid on the aceo. I think the starting bid should, in this case, be standardized at 0.99 to encourage participants. I know, some of you artists with "skill" and "talent" are used to starting higher, but that goes both ways. Sure, a Mick Reasor Original might sell for way under market value, but does anyone want to spend $10 for a pole-dancing teddybear wearing a sexy nurse outfit with Matt Furey of Sexual Kung Fu fame stuffing dollar bills in her g-string... drawn by, oh, I don't know, me? I thought not.

hahahahah Why not? My Killer Teddies sell. ]:) Sounds like you're onto something here though but I hate the .99 cents, it degrades all artists. JMO. Would it be open to those who don't sell on ebay?

I'm game of course - after all I double dog dared Mick and Josh and now I'm no longer high bidder on both the auctions! Whatever the rules I'll play - after all this is art - creativity comes from odd places. I have to share this: I was working as a graphic artist for a large company and I was doing designs for t-shirts (yeah serious art) and we'd have these meetings about what sold, what should sell, numbers, studies, etc., until you wanted to bang your head on the wall. One day at coffee break we were talking about the King Tut exhibit and I happened to share how they used to clean out the head of the dead before they made them into mummies. You who know this get the idea. Everyone went 'Euyooo!' So I said it would make a great t-shirt. I did a drawing with straws in the nostrils and an official looking decription of the Mummy Suck procedure. Silly, silly nonsense and we sold TONS of them. No one could figure out why but it is like explaining why a joke is funny. So sure, consider me a double-dog dare charter member. Does this mean I have to bring the doughnuts?

katatOnik - I think as long as there's a bid on it it should be ok - the point I believe is that you don't dare someone to post something and then have NO bids on it....

Speaking of "double dog dare," have you all seen this? Ending soon... Sorry, art*teanne, it sarted at .99 cents. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=001&item=110004686089&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3... Interesting idea, a twisted swap, if you will, idea and dare for a bid? Hmm... Penny 😉

Oh, I hate to be the wet blanket on this fun little dream, but, I think that setting up bids could be considered shilling by eBay standards, and that could be bad news for the artist who posts. Or, perhaps that's part of the dare? A little risk? Penny ]:)

LOL! Or should I do more of a Muuuuuhahahahaha! This is gonna' be fun! Hey, Josh! Since you are obviously King of I Dare You, who's gonna' make the list of participants, collect and distribute dares? As to an opening bid, making it mandatory would probably be considered shilling of some sort. So it doesn't have to be an official "rule". But it could be a gentleman's/gentlewoman's/gentleperson's unspoken agreement, right? 🙂

I'm back: I don't think it's shilling - this is a legitimate, commissioned work. If the artist doesn't get any more bids, the dare-er will still be buying it. I'll look up their rules, but I think this should be in the clear. http://harmoniousjosh.blogspot.com/

Ah, this is going to be too good to miss. What about time limits from accepting dare to listing? Should there be some? lj
