Ebay Blogs. Yea of Nay?

After a long absence,I'm back on Ebay this week. 🙂 I'm trying to do some additional marketing by Ebay blogging. What is your opinion of blogging? Does it direct more traffic to your auctions? or is it a waste of time? Also, when do you think holiday traffic picks up?

Re: Ebay Blogs. Yea of Nay?

I don't think I've ever looked at an eBay blog. A lot of artists do have blogs, but it seems that most use blogger, or one of the larger sites, and just place a link on the ME page. -- Kathy

There was a discussion about blogging going on not too long ago. I'll see if I can find the thread. -- Kathy

Re: Ebay Blogs. Yea of Nay?

I picked up an art magazine (The Pastel Journal) yesterday and one of the ads consisted of showing an artwork - for a 5x7 pastel painting (a little child on a beach picking up shells - I think) and it said - auction starting at $100 and then the URL - it was an off-eBay blog. In art and handmade crafts there is a DEFINITE trend towards this individual approach to creative sales (selling & auctioning from blogs) and even twitter, facebook, etc. I must admit, that I sold one of my art works (ACEO) from a watercolor blog. This group has a blog and a 'sister' blog for SFA (small format art), where members can be authors and put up their work, as well as links to their auctions/sales. 1 image per day limit, but as many links as you wish. Request to join through my eBayID and add @gmail dot com. With google offers a free 'shopping cart' that you can add to many places. If you get a blog I can recommend through blogger dot com (run by google). But eBay blogs - you are lost in a sea of people selling all manner of things, your chances of being found are not great. That is where the artist in the ad was... http//: margaretdyer dot blogspot dot com I'm going to go look now. -- ~Jillian artist, Jillian Crider ... google me!

Re: Ebay Blogs. Yea of Nay?

Well, that was a nice trip. What I'd LOVE to recommend to you is to visit the link there for Belinda Del Pesco. She has long been a favorite of mine, and always mentioned in the eBay ACA awards. I'm sure she has won some, too. Her blog is a treat! belindadelpesco dot blogspot dot com/ You can see her widget for Aunt bEtsy on her blog. -- ~Jillian artist, Jillian Crider ... google me! -- Edited by artistjillian at 08/30/2009 9:01 AM PDT

Re: Ebay Blogs. Yea of Nay?

Thank you SOOOOOOO much for the valuable information Jillian and Kathy.:) I truly appreciate all the effort that went into answering my questions. I have copied down ALL the links in ALL the threads and plan to visit them today. HUmmmmmm, I guess there really isn't any reason why I couldn't make HTML for a blog and use the same code on different blogs. I might try that. My first 5 items (since I starting listed again) went off last night. I sold 3 out of the 5. Yeaaaa!!!!!! Crossing my fingers and hoping my good fortune continues. Again thanks for your help. If anyone else has an opinion or suggestions, I'd love to hear from you also. Donna

Re: Ebay Blogs. Yea of Nay?

For anyone that's going to start a blog, I recommend using WordPress over Blogger. There's nothing wrong with Blogger, but if I'd known better, I would've set mine up with WordPress. WordPress gives you more options and IMO seems a bit more professional, but it was not worth the effort for me to make the switch. I recently overhauled my Blogger blog with a 3 column template I found on-line and I'm pretty happy with it now. I agree with what's already been posted - don't bother with an eBay blog. You need a blog that's on the "open market", not limited to only those that use eBay. My blog's at annran (dot) blogspot (dot) com if anyone wants to take a look :-) -- -Ann "Now, go away, or I shall taunt you a second time."

Re: Ebay Blogs. Yea of Nay?

I only hope I have as much fun doing a blog I've had researching them. I'm really excited about it, and will keep you posted when its up and running. Thanks all! Note to Kathy: You know I've been thinking, and you're right. I haven't seen a single squirrel wearing a bra since that big rally in the park, back in the 60's. So many tiny bras up in smoke. 😉
