eBay fees are getting too expensive!!!

I just sold a few items and noticed eBay took 12% of my total....Plus PayPal (Who is owned by eBay) took another 3%......
This is ridiculous!!!!
http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/fees.html

Is there any way to get these fees lowered for future listings. Like starting a store OR am I doing something wrong????

Any suggestions would be appreciated.....

eBay presents itself as taking less than 10% but ultimately taking 20% and really much more with all of their monthly fees.

The FVF is a clearly stated 10%. How does eBay present itself as taking less than 10%? How do they manage to take much more than 20%?

Re: eBay fees are getting too expensive!!!

Outrageous. Tried selling my old wakeboard, unsuccesfully by the way, and was charged $16 for twenty days?!?! The price of my item was $200. That is 8% plus they deduct additional percentage off the final sell price. Might as well donate the item and write it off on taxes or just try Craigsllist. Not using eBay o sell anyhting ever again. That is greed at it's finest.

Re: eBay fees are getting too expensive!!!

@evgo80  Hi, evgo...before you decide to quit selling on eBay because of their "outrageous" fees, it would be a good idea if you knew how eBay worked!  The good news is that you came to the right place as the Part Time eBay sellers group is here to help.

The $16 charge was because you selected to set a "reserve price" for your listings.  eBay charges 4% of the set reserve price when the reserve price is over $75 ($3 for under $75)  when you use this option, rather it sells or not.  Most buyers really really dislike a reserve price listing.  It is much easier for the buyer and more economical for the seller to just start your auction at the lowest price you are willing to take, thus avoiding the extra charge for a reserve price listing.

In the future, should you decide to sell again, come here first and ask question on how to best list your widget and you will receive excellent advice and help.  Here is eBay's chart/policy page for listing fees and upgrades...hope this helps!

Re: eBay fees are getting too expensive!!!

That was not that helpful. If I set a reserve it was for a reason, I would not want to sell my item below a certain minimum obviously.

The way to do that without paying the reserve fee is to set an appropriate starting price.

If if you don't find the responses helpful, that's your problem. Complaining about a fee that you're told about before you list is also your problem.

Hidy very clearly stated...  "It is much easier for the buyer and more economical for the seller to just start your auction at the lowest price you are willing to take, thus avoiding the extra charge for a reserve price listing."

You are guaranteed your minimum selling price, possibly more if it sells, with no added reserve fees...

How is that not helpful?

Re: eBay fees are getting too expensive!!!

They are starting to lose business now, but their Fees are still too high. OK, larger audience but still costly per month. Listing Fees were about 28p now they're over 40p on some. Not good enough... if they want to atract seller's, they need to return it back to where they were within reason.

This is eBay USA. Listing fee has been 30 cents for years, and we get 50 free per month.
