Warning of using fedex shipping label and invoice fees!

I recently sold a saxophone on ebay and used the fedex shipping label on ebay to ship the item.  As I just started selling, my funds weren't available instantly so I clicked the option to be charged when my funds were available for the shipping label.  When my funds became available, I never got charged on paypal for the shipping label, but just today I checked my invoice fees and it had jumped from around $90 to $134.  I thought there must of been something wrong so I checked my invoice fees and saw that I was being charged $44 for my fedex shipping label.  In the details of the fee, it said my label was 51lbs and had a bunch of other charges, but my label was only 18lbs and the shipping label cost only around $24, probably less.  I called ebay and they told me it was a mistake on their part and credited me back money so the charge of the shipping label was back to $24.  But as I said the label was probably less so I should of gotten back more money. Ebay would have charged me the extra money if I never saw the mistake, so I wanted to warn my fellow sellers out there.  They ebay specialist told me that fedex shipping labels sometimes have problems because they are still working on it.  So when you use Fedex, make sure you check how much you get charged.

The charges are assesed by both weight and dimensions.  If they were large boxes, that could have increased the shipping cost.    For example, 12 lbs in a 14x14x14 box is more expensive to ship than 12 lbs in a 12x12x12 even though they both weigh the same.

Ebay is responsible for having them listed as a reliable shipping option.  Their pricing is never what ebay says they will be.  I have stopped using fedex because of their untrue pricing.  use only usps.

I use fedex smart post often, I notice the fedex charges always go to my eBay bill rather than PayPal. But I’m not seeing any further charges beyond what was on the label. Am I not seeing something?

I appreciate you taking time to comment to the community as I had to goto Google to search out your post Ebay does a thorough job of steering eyes to what they want viewed.  Ebay is a costly selling option!  This Fed Ex tool makes great sense, and the discount is excellent. What isn't excellent is that the fees show up later.  I track margins via Paypal and having a stack of end of Month Fed Ex Charges buried in the weeds so to speak is not cool.

Unfortunately this isnt really ebays doing.  It is the way fedex bills.  So, it would be an issue with any online venue.  You can call fedex and get your ebay account linked to a fedex account so you can purchase your labels directly from fedex at the same discount.  The only real difference is the invoice would come to you as a bill rather than via ebay invoice.   It does make it easier to deal with any billing issues though, when you believe there has been a mistake, it is directly linked to you rather than Ebay.

Stop being cynical, we are talking about a mayor fraud going on here orchestrated by eBay and FedEx. It looks like a Ponzi scheme to me. No need to ridicule the posts of sellers that got ripped off.

You are responding to a 2016 thread. There wasn’t anything cynical about her post. There is also no major fraud going on. If you have concerns about your billing or account, it may be best to call customer service.

Everyone has options. Just be sure the best option is right for you.

The reason companies lately have been repeatedly ripping customers off is cuz in like 2015ish the Supreme Court ruled that ARBITRATION CLAUSES can be enforced (which I’m sure is somewhere in the little box you clicked “agree to terms”).  What’s the result?  FedEx (and all major companies) are protected from class action lawsuits.  ARBITRATION CLAUSES are the root of all major big business ripoffs.

I tried to ship a part back to Rock Auto. FedEx shipped it to the wrong location. Sorry about your luck not their fault is what I was told. I was actually told “Well we did our job and delivered the package”. What? You delivered it to the wrong address. Called customer service and was berated by Donna and Darlene. Darlene actually hung up on me. Date and time of call 8/16/19 @ 4:00-5:00 pm. I have filled a complaint with The Attorney General of Michigan. Not holding my breathe.

Yes I recently noticed that myself.  Honestly, I don't care.   As long as I am charged correctly, it doesn't matter from where it is deducted.

Sorry that happened to you. Did you contact the seller to make sure of the return address or did it even involve eBay?

Make sure you use a scale that's accurate for U.S. Post Office standards (that's a reliable reference you can use). For small items, the better desktop scales are very accurate. For large items, consider taking them to a U.S. Post Office and weighing them. I'm getting into the habit of taking a picture showing the weight (and the package) in order to fight additional fees. Both FedEx and UPS weigh items (USPS, last I checked, randomly weighed them; but that could have changed recently), and if you're over, you are charged the proper rate for the weight. Protect yourself by having evidence that your weigh bill matches your item's weight. If overcharged, take it up with eBay and show the evidence. FWIW: it's always better to err on the higher side (if an item is 14lbs 10oz -- round up to 15lbs).
