Not true! I list great items for 3, 4, 5 bucks. You can't buy anywhere at that price, they still won't sell. EBay is a rip off

Well, considering Blue has been on eBay 15 years longer than you have, I don't think that you coming into a thread and insinuating they are lying is really appropriate. Further, if you know where to look, you absolutely CAN buy stuff at clearance sales like Blue mentioned, I have done it myself. I have a pair of Lucky Brand jeans that I bought new at a store clearance. The tag on them said $139.00.... I paid 9.99 for them new, with tags. Your profit is NOT in what you sell an item for, it's in what you PAY for your items. 90% of the items I sell are 10 dollar items and I'm making GOOD profit margins.

@blue-vintage wrote:If you're expecting to get retail prices on everyday items then yes, flea markets & yard sales are a better option. People can get decent cotton hoodies for $10 or less at major retailer's clearance sales. One of the problems I see is that sellers pay too much for their items then price them too high to try & make profits.
I think you're projecting, most sellers actually see the items for cheaper than retail especially if it's used. The problem is more likely buyers want to bid on everything for 99cent auctions so they can pay nothing (might as well just go to a flea market) or there are stupid sellers who use the watch button to gauge if the merchandise is going to sell, when they can just use a search option to figure out the final value of sold listings. The prices are actually considerably cheaper on Ebay most the time.

Nothing I luv better than to see a community come together to tear someone down for asking a question. If you've no desire to have a real discussion w/o offending or bullying someone in the process don't waste my time or the person's asking. We're not here for fun but to learn & discuss. Dry humor does nothing but shame & that's unhelpful to say the least. I surely won't buy from anyone being rude. I'd tell you to shove it where the sun don't shine. I'm a buyer & a seller & yes, most times than not that is the case these days. And with so many other marketplaces open now eBay does not do enough to market. Internet sales tax added & the new postal hikes are about the death of eBay. We can't compete. Amazon is dead in the water to anyone w/o a purchase receipt you've got to provide now meaning you need to have a buyers license & to me that means they want to shut out the smaller sellers which may be happening here by default. Items I once listed that would have sold first day just sit for months. I have to cross promote on social media to bump sales. No, the juice is not worth the squeeze. Really, to buy or sell. Ppl just search eBay now for things they can't find anywhere else. And working even harder is not the answer it's already way more work than it's worth. I noticed that come time to pay my invoice something will magically sell out of the blue. That's happened consistantly for a year now. eBay is going to have to do their part to bring customers back to eBay. It's that simple. I'm not paying more to "promote" an item I'm already paying them to sell either. It is what it is. Unless eBay steps up & helps out it will fade farther into retail background & ppls minds & small sellers will feel the pinch first. eBay's kick "a" double "s" ad during Black Friday expressed their flustration at having to compete with Amazon which is apples to oranges anyhow. As much time & effort as I have in it & $$$ I'll go down with the ship or sell elsewhere that simple. Anyone with a real solution not just smart a generalizations I'd love to hear. TY. SR.

MONTHLY STORE FEES ARE ALWAYS THERE

Definitely have the same issue - I just take most of my stuff to swap meets - no seller fees, high shipping costs and fees on shipping. Sometimes it just doesn't seem worth the time at all to list on ebay with what you net on something. We have a local free swap meet every sat/sun and I probably sell 95% of my stuff there. Ebay was great a few years ago, but can't say it anymroe.

Same here. I had 40 items listed some starting at 0.99 others starting price £5 for items costing £350 such as a conditioning/venting system new in box. One item sold, a pine table at £36.00 ! That's lean.
Yet, I have tried to remain positive. The same situation happened last month with different items. I listed at the end of the first week in the month, nothing sold until I relisted around 27th of the month and I virtually sold out. Coincidence. I don't know, but I am observing this month if the same pattern repeats itself? So, patience is a must and then tackle the problem if it carries on.

I refuse to go any lower with my price. I would literally rather throw it away. People expect things for free. The fees are far too high and have to be factored in the price. When it comes to buying things I know the opposite is true. I can buy it cheaper, because the fees are added to the cost. Ebay is history.

I have a camera on Ebay only used twice perfect mint condition and everyone wants it for nothing. I have lowered the price a couple of times and still cannot sell. No store would ever sell this camera for that low. I have the lowest price on Ebay, other people are asking more money for the same camera not in the mint condition mine is. If I lower anymore it will not be worth selling. I had one person bid on it and he seem to really want it. Then at last minute he cancelled. Just sold another item, now buyer will not pay for it. It is becoming quite a hassle selling on Ebay. It was not always like this. Years ago when I first started on Ebay it was much easier to sell items. Very frustrated. Do not know what is going on?
