Yep same thing happened to me. Didn't have funds in PP buyer escalated
case. Which dings your account and loses you FVF then Ebay had no
problem taking funds from my bank account.

correct about Ebay CS lying to you about the paying you back the return

Your chances of winning are very slim if buyer actually open the case
with ebay. Once it's Snad he could pretty much give any excuse and ebay
would take it. Of course if it contradicts what he said to you in
messages. Then you can call ebay show them...
