GRADING SERVICE RANKINGS

Personally, I like unslabbed coins better than slabbed. I do on occasion buy slabbed, especially for more expensive coins. The following three are generally accepted as the best, and I tend to agree. #1 PCGS #2 NGC #3 ANACS There's a whole plethora of new slabs, from grading companies that I would best describe as disreputable. At any rate, you will be better off by sticking with the three aforementioned services, especially when you decide to sell. Having said that, you still need to be selective. Eye appeal, whether slabbed or not is extremely important. 2 similar coins graded by the same service, with identical grades can be miles apart when it comes to eye appeal. If it looks nice to you, it will usually look nice to others.

I agree with floortile on the top tier. also PCI, IGS and SEGS might be 2nd tier, everything else beware as they are self-slabbers to sell their own coins.

I have found that it is best to stay away from ms or proof 70, after a coin ages it will change and you will have a 69-- all a coin needs is a small spot to be a 69.The higher price does not justify the 70 grade.

I would include ICG with the other "Big Three" - PCGS, NGC, and ANAC. These four are the only grading services recognized by and used exclusively by the large reputable coin auction houses eg., Heritage House and Teletrade.

Anyone notice NGC coin prices dropping for no reason lately? Is NGC generating to many 70 scores and people getting scared there grading has slipped a bit. Just a observation.

I have never seen an NGC older coin MS70. some of the new quarters and presidential coins I don't know. I think they are a good grading service.

I think the reason they are dropping in price is the overall summer slump. Normal during the summer. Now if the NGC prices don't rebound come November/December... I for one will be in a world of hurt... whaaaaaaaa :_| John
