Who the heck cares? (#3)

There is always someone who cares.   I know this is TCM's thread & hope she doesn't mind if I start #3.   We can't go without a 'who the heck cares'.

Re: Who the heck cares? (#3)

Southern trivia for tomorrow - I don't know where these old traditions came from if from a single place or a compilation of different people's traditions or maybe even something a group of people made up and others adopted.

My dad's parents lived with us until they died and my grandmother was superstitious.

She'd been brought up to believe on New Year's day you were to avoid going anywhere and if you left the house you were to bring something back in.

You were not supposed to take anything out of the house.

What ever you started doing that day you would be doing the rest of the year.

Actually that part made sense, because you avoided doing anything that day , so you'd only be doing the things you had to do.

You weren"t supposed to cut anything with scissors or throw anything away or wash clothes on New Year's Day.

If you were to wash clothes that day the person those clothes belonged to would die.

All those things were supposed to represent some kind of loss.

You were supposed to eat greens and black eyed peas and hog jowl to have prosperity in the new year.

The greens represented folding money, the peas were change, and the hog jowl was the purse.

Call me poor, I never participated and don't care to now. Lol

Be careful if you go out tonight and I hope everyone has a happy 2025.

Re: Who the heck cares? (#3)

Absolutely beautiful here for the 1st of 2025.

Though have still a bone with next door.

Last September - because they were too lousy to install a security alarm - for 9 dwellings - which were continually burgled - hot water systems etc - they are very small these days - just disconnect and take - they decided to leave all the lights in the complex on - all night.

This actually aided one lot - who woke me - well Boo Boo - I watched them cut the chain on the tempoary fence - drive straight up the driveway. LOL

One carport light shines right up into my bedroom window - no point in putting the blind down - it shines up - 3 months of being able to read in bed without a light.

People began moving in the week before Christmas - so these lights should have been turned off - no longer needed for security.

Contacted them they will get around to it.

So - as this seems to be a neighbour thing - nothing Council will do - I purchased my own security flood lights today.

Will let them know tomorrow - these lights will shine all night for the next 3 months - some tenants may need blackout curtains. lol

Now it's New Year - back to suing the Council.

A woman's work is never done. 😀

Re: Who the heck cares? (#3)

Usually it is "out with the old and in with the new"

In your case, it is "out with the old and in with more of the old"

Some things will never change but in your case, things had better change or else!   How is it that you have not gone completely mad or lost your mind?

25 minutes more and it will be 2025.  I'll stop there.

Re: Who the heck cares? (#3)

Well, they've certainly been busy.

Wonder what they'll get up to today.

Grit had a John Wayne marathon going yesterday. Big Jake rang in the New Year.

I went to bed when The Angel and the Bad Man came on.

Fredi, you get some great vacation time now that you're gonna be working with the school.

you'll be available to go camping all summer😀

Dom, how can you sleep with all that going on and the bright light too?

Got to be a miserable situation.

Did you ever get compensated for your tree?

Hard to get justice confronting the business bunch.

Breakfast is on. BBL

Re: Who the heck cares? (#3)

Started taking down the Christmas tree & packing ornaments........been at it for about 90 minutes & still not done.

The Royal Fleabag is taking a nap, so it was as good a time as any. I bought some "catnip spray" to put on his new scratching post......I might as well sprayed it with mace. First cat I've ever had that wants nothing to do with catnip.

Starting to wonder if he was raised Morman before he showed up at my place.😼

Back into the fray.

Re: Who the heck cares? (#3)

Happy 2025 all.
I was up at 6 am (on the first)to hike our beautiful mountains. Everything is very brown, and dry. The oak trees are evergreens, so at least those trees shimmered in the breeze, and helped welcome in the New Year.

Re: Who the heck cares? (#3)

A lovely way to begin the new year TCM.

Haven't begun to remove Christmas yet - it will take about 20 minutes.🤣

Find a little box for the cows - fold up the tree - put the birds back on the cushions - and put the reindeer in his box. - Voila.

Fredi when do you begin your new job - hope you are taking a bit of a break from the old - sort out your topless wardrobe. ?

Shirls you have a lot of fun with your dolls and Stinky.

Love seeing them.

Cathy - all those superstitions - good grief - I'd never get out of bed.

Fruit - done yet - where's the Bra.??
