ebay doesn't protect sellers

I hear ya man.  I recently sold a working CD changer for a Pontiac.  Took 12 pictures of it from every angle.  Two weeks later I have a case opened against me saying it wasn't as described.  He complained that it was DOA.  Seemed funny to me.  Worked great when it came out, I packaged it wonderfully and shipped it at my expense.  Took him two weeks to say it didn't work.  EBay said I had to refund him.  He sends it back and when I opened the box I can see the unit is damaged.  It has a nasty gouge in the corner from obviously being dropped on the concrete.  I immediately went to Ebay to fight it.  At the end of the day Ebay sided with the buyer despite the fact I had pictures that showed what it looked like before it shipped and pictures to show what it came back looking like.  I have about 900 100% transactions since 2002 when I started with Ebay and this buyer had 4 in the last year.  I now have a worthless CD changer.  Ebay didn't even blink an eye.  I was out the $145 bucks and told me to get over it.  Ridiculous!

Hey Guys,

I am total agreement with everyone on this blog. EBAY DOES NOT PROTECT SELLERS!!!!!!!

Here is my current situation. I sold a two month mint condition physically perfect BOSE Q20Ci headset under a no refund listing thinking that I would be protecting myself against what many people have complained about here. The buyer receiving a perfect product and destroying and using ebay return if damage policy. Sorry to say, the "NO REFUND" is not protection for the buyer. It's simply for if the buyer expresses buyer's remorse meaning if the buyer contacts me and says I don't want this again because I found it cheaper or I just don't want it. A buyer will never use that. It's common sense.

Now the buyer after 5 days of holding my product states that a copper wire is showing on my headset which was in perfect condition when sent. I called ebay and told them about the issue and all they said was that the buyer has the right to return a product if damaged and that as a seller I have to understand that losses will be accrued. All I said was, WOW Unbelievable!!!!!! A buyer can purchase a product, destroy it, and then use the "Product Damage" loop hole to get his money back. Now the seller myself, will be getting back a defective product just like everyone else here and have no ways to recoup the money becuse the product can't be sold again.

This is sad on Ebay's part. I wish that their business model expressed fairness and support for not only the buyer but for the seller. Ebay can rectify this issue but refuse to so when I receive this product and the transaction if finalized I will be closing my Ebay account. Ebay is no longer a viable option of making money therefore I will never be using it again.

I would recommend other avenues, maybe Amazon.

amazon would require buyer to be made whole as well.

all members have the same protections here.

photos prove nothing , you can take photos of 1 item and ship a different one. or just doctor the photo.

the rules are set to protect members , you'd want the same protection if you were the buyer in the transaction

Lol Mr Private feedback, spoken like a true buyer. Maybe try selling and see if you feel the same way. By the way what's with the Private Feedback? No one cares if you buy porn!

I completely agree! Ebay doesn't care about sellers which makes no sense to me. Who pays the fees to Ebay on each transaction??? The SELLER. So of course I can see EBay's logic on siding with the buyer. NOT. They should have seen this one coming down the pike. Reaching back well beyond 2010, there have been horrible chargeback scams that have hit Ebay sellers. So what does Ebay do? They make it easier for the buyer to steal items without having to contact their credit card company. They just have to say something is defective and abracadabra they have their money and the item.
Our scammer must have had his return request written and ready to hit send the moment our item was delivered however, he was off by a little. His Ebay request hit our email box at 9:19am. His personal message hit our email box at 9:27am and the item was delivered to the mailbox by the post office at 9:24am. Hmmmmmmm..... Something wrong there. Also, his email to us at 9:27am said that he had received the laptop 15 minutes earlier so unless he has a time machine or a Delorian....this is not possible. I'm calling it a scam.
He would have had to be camped out by the mailbox ready to rip the box open and quickly plug the laptop into some mysterious electrical outlet to determine that the power jack (which was perfect and snug when it left our facility) was busted.
So we are out the money for the laptop. I don't even want it back now because you know it is trashed. We are being charged fees by Ebay and PayPal and our PayPal account has been locked up for three days.
I have been a member since 2001 and have a 100% feedback rating. I'm not sticking around here to let EBay's sorry practices drag my reputation and bank account through the mud. Maybe Amazon is the place to go.
By the way, for years I have received items that weren't as they were described but I just took the hit and made sure I bid accordingly just incase I received something not so great. Use common sense when buying. All of these buyers that are crying wolf are going to take a chunk out Ebay eventually. Ebay should really reconsider what they are doing to their sellers.

Ah it's members , anyone can buy or sell as a member.

I completly understand. I just spent 43minutes on the phone with ebay, and was told all I could do is report the buyer. I Sold 29.64 oz of mixed silver jewelry to a buyer after a week I got a possitive feedback. 32 days later the buyer reported item not as discribed, has plastic and is magnetic. All our items are magnet and aced tested.  I sent the buyer 2 messages with no response. 7 days later I declined return. the next day ebay sent me a judgement in the buyer favor. I have no recorse. after 32 days and a possitive feedback???????I received Item back and noticed it was 4.26 oz short on silver items and the better pieces were not returned. I called ebay and was told im **bleep**ty outta luck, that all i could do is report the buyer and they would not reimburse for selling fees ect. this is 2 times in a month for a total of 687.23 stuck to me on sales and fees.

Totally agree!!! I shipped a $10 poster to a buyer using the USPS provided triangle poster "tube" who admitted through the message board that it was received at his PO Box and he let it sit for over a week then picked it up and instead of inspecting it he says he tossed it in his trunk? the a week or so later as he is going to bring it to Michaels to get framed, only then does he inspect the actual poster? He also admits, in his own words, "Clearly the package was damaged" but he did nothing for almost 3 weeks and then instead of working with me to resolve the issue he immediately goes into blaming me because he does not approve of the packaging...  Not that I was misleading or or anything, his whole thing was it was my fault that a poster was damaged in a package the Post Office provides to ship posters in...  I told asked for pictures as prove of damage so I could file a claim for his refund and he still continued to complain... seemed to take issue with the fact that I wasn't OWNING UP and laying blame on the Post Office (again, in his own words, "Clearly the package was damaged"). Then he submits for a return of product? I tell him there is no need to spend extra money on a damaged item, it would take a bout a week for the Post Office to rule on the claim and to give it a couple of days...

His response, "I am mailing the item back to you and will provide the tracking number here soon after. I will just leave everything to eBay. They will step in on June 4 if this is not resolved. Again, you will not hear from me anymore. I even went through the trouble of uploading images to photobucket. That took a lot of my time already. It's up to you if you want to refund or not, but I'm done. End of conversation."

I had already sent him proof of the claim, asked him to give it a few days, told him not to waste money when he didn't need to and still he is arguing with me and wanting to lay blame for something that was in the process of getting resolved!

Out come...  USPS took responsibility is sending me a refund. I in-turn notified the buyer and issued him a refund (he got his money back with in 5 days of first contacting me). and then...  HE LEAVES NEGATIVE FEEDBACK CALLING ME ARGUMENTATIVE!!!

And what does eBay do after briefly reviewing my request for removal of Malicious Feedback? NOTHING...  Same Bulls**t they always read off the script, "we appreciate your eBay patronage but the Feed back does not fall into the...  Blah, Blah, Blah..."

The only silver lining...  ... did spend an extra $6.95 to ship the poster back in the same packaging he complained about and it came back really messed up. So, I filed a claim on the shippment and will also be rfunded for that so... instead of making $10 on the poster I made $26.95 and ..... spent $6.95 to be able to leave me Negative Feedback.

EBAY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE SELLER THAT ARE GENERATING THEIR REVENUE STREAM!!! THEY HAVE A STRANGLE HOLD ON THE ONLINE AUCTION THING AND THEY KNOW IT...  IT'S ALL ABOUT MONEY. THEY ARE THE REAL CRIMINAL IN THIS!!!

I dont accept returns unless there is an issue with the item that was my error...  I told him not to return it and I never accepted the return request so NO, I should not have. He should have waited the extra couple days I told him to and he would not be out an extra $6.95. I did everything on the up and up and he was suffering from a temper tantrum that he was unwilling to calm down from and it cost him.

Ebay is promoting illegitimate buyer behavior by allowing buyers to make unsubstantiated claims against sellers as a means to get there money back and keep product.

It is an obvious buyer ploy when you ask for photos that show damage to the item, and they refuse or you never receive them. The next step is they escalate the claim, using "not as described" (which is an insult) to legitimate sellers and ebay (without seller contact) makes a decision in favor of the buyer.

Consider how may transactions are manipulated by buyers knowing all the rights, privileges, power exists with them.

It's like advertising on a giant billboard, "shop ebay you can choose to pay. "

I guess I'm going to vent here..AND join the many other sellers who are **bleep** off about Ebay's Not SO Bright Resolution Dept.... I made a sell under under "New Other" because I had opened it up and installed a map for the buyers area. The buyer kept it for a week and then requested a refund saying the item wasn't new (even though all through the title and description it was described as opened). Item was sold as is.... I asked for Ebay to step in and read the description....AND THEY RULE IN THE BUYERS BEHALF...WHAT???????????? COMMON SENSE-EBAY EMPLOYEES.....I WAS A COP FOR OVER 20 YEARS and HAVE BEEN TO QUITE A FEW TRIALS THAT NEVER ENDED IN A VERDIT LIKE THIS... I GUESS THERE CALIFORNIA BASED, SO THEY WERE EITHER PART OF THE OJ SIMPSOM JURY OR FROM THE DERRICK ZOOLANDER "KIDS WHO CAN'T READ GOOD' SCHOOL...I'LL GUESS I'LL BUY ON EBAY AND SELL ON AMAZON...
