I usually go to ebay.com via a bookmark in my chrome bookmarks bar. Looking at it again, its URL is indeed ebay.com, yet many times, but not every time that I go on ebay, I get this shopstyle loading screen that preceeds my ebay home page. I've checked my hosts file and it seems clean.

If you are on a computer, it might be worth running an adware or malware scan such as adwcleaner by Malwarebytes.
If you are on a mobile device, it might be worth trying another browser. If another browser does not redirect, go back to your original browser and delete cache and history, and see if that makes a difference.

Malwarebytes didn't find the culprit, but it could be one of my extensions. What makes it annoying is that it doesn't redirect every time. I think what I'll do is just use ebay in incognito for a while and see if the redirect occurs.
Anyone notice Chrome has a scanner of sorts burried in its settings? I didn't find it to be of any use, whatsoever. It just sat there with the circular loading icon for 12 or something hours. I just closed chrome when I went to bed. It didn't say, "Oh noes! We're fixing your plumbing!" or anything. Maybe it works for some people?

I've been getting this the past couple days as well. Hopefully it's explained or fixed soon.

My impression is that certain browsers seem to be more susceptible to certain redirect attacks than others -- or else the attacks are targeting certain browsers or OS's at various times. I seem to recall a big redirect problem that primarily affected Safari on iPads, I think. Not sure if it is worth switching browsers just to avoid an ad, though -- many of the most serious redirects made eBay all but unusable for the folks afflicted.
If it is not malware on your computer or device, it may be being delivered through a third-party ad, which might explain why it does not happen every time. Many sites deliver a series of rotating ads, and which ad you receive depends upon the luck of the draw. I would think most ad blockers would prevent that though.
See this thread for some details of past problems, though I think the thread went on long enough to encompass more than one individual type of attack.

I did not know about that scanner in the "reset and clean up computer" section of Chrome. I tried just now, and let it run in the background, and eventually it wound up with a "No harmful software found message". Possibly it went quicker for me because i do not use Chrome on this machine very often.

I had the same issue: Using Linux Mint and Chrome browser. I did the following which seems to have eliminated the redirect completely:
From the 3-Dot menu on the chrome menu bar:
select -> "Settings" -> "Privacy and Security" -> "Site Settings" -> "View permissions and data stored across sites"
Find the "ebay.com" and select the 3-dot menu for "more actions"
Select -> "reset permissions"
(I did not "clear data")
After closing and reopening the browser I've used my ebay bookmark several dozen times without the "shopstyle redirect" occurring even once. It used to happen at least once every 3 times I used the bookmark. I'll keep my fingers crossed and update if it returns.

I wonder how much correlation there is between the mobile and desktop Firefox browsers? I found that Firefox Mobile was pegging my CPU cores behind my back. As it happens, my battery really isn't into that. Again, could be an extension, but it happens even after closing all tabs.

Same as this Reddit thread https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/ff4oml/is_an_extension_hijacking_my_ebay_visits/
It could be an installed extension like ublock origin or any of the others. Maybe people can list what extensions they have installed.

this issue was fixed by clearing cache and cookies. Somebody from eBay should contact shopstyle and see who is responsible for this.
