Re: what is wrong with sellers who sell large item and refuse to send buyer tracking

Please make a note:  There is no eBay requirement whatsoever that a seller obtain tracking or share tracking information with the buyer.

Tracking protects the seller, not the buyer, because if there is no tracking proving delivery, the buyer will win an INR case.

All a buyer has to do is wait for the arrival of his purchase.  If that does not happen within a few days of the estimated delivery, the buyer opens an item not received case.

Sellers are not required to provide tracking.  The only thing tracking does is provide proof for the seller if a buyer makes a false claim of non-delivery.  The seller's responsibility is to get  your package to you, preferably before the last delivery date given to you by eBay.  If you do not receive it on time, you can open an Item Not Received claim the next day.

And what does the size of the package have to do with whether or not they send tracking?

I suspect that such a seller has failed to ship the item, possibly due to being surprised by the price of the postage.  If you have contacted the seller and they refuse to provide the tracking number, you can let this affect the comment that you leave for feedback as well as the   "Communication" rating.

All package services (including USPS retail and online package services) automatically include tracking, so this is not a question about whether a seller "obtained" a tracking number when he shipped the package.

As a buyer I check tracking so that I can be aware of when the package will be delivered.  Some buyers might live in areas with a risk of porch theft, and of course there can also be weather-related reasons for wanting to know right away when a package has been left on the porch. Without the tracking number, the buyer can't sign up for notifications.

Perhaps "large" meant "too large to be mailed as a letter or flat, therefore has tracking which the seller refuses to share" or "too large to fit in my mailbox and thus at risk of being stolen or rained on so I want to know when it's out for delivery."

Go to your Purchase History page and find your purchased item. If the seller uploaded a tracking number (which would have happened automatically if they printed the label on-line), the tracking number should be visible there.

If not, and assuming that they are shipping via USPS, go to usps.com and sign up for a free Informed Delivery account. One of the options there is to get automatic notifications about inbound packages to your address via either text or email. You do not need to know the tracking number; they're matched to you by the street address on the label. I find that service really useful, because I know a day or more in advance when the package will be arriving.

It is easier to give good advice if more details of your issue are offered.  Right now, we can offer general rules, but more specific information is available, if you offer some specifics.

Was it a pick up only listing?
