Re: shipping to chile

Chile doesn`t provide full tracking if shipping by USPS, so it is very risky country to ship (I personally don`t ship to South & Central America after being scammed many years ago even with a full tracking at that time).

You will be charged 10% fees on the item plus 10% on the domestic shipping (not the international)  plus more fees on taxes if applicable - in case you still want to ship there.

Re: shipping to chile

Tell the buyer to hire a "Freight Forwarder" located in the USA.   Tell the seller to let you know what FF they hired once they do and make the purchase.  (Don't tell them why)   That way once you deliver the item to the FF you are done as the seller protections kick in.  er, especially if you have evidence from they buyer that they hired a FF.

Otherwise, only ship internationally through the eBay Global Shipping Program.

Re: shipping to chile

Even in the best of times it can take a couple of months for a package to be delivered in Chile. I wouldn't even consider shipping there during a pandemic with the mails in the state they're in right now.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

What do you mean by "once you deliver the item to the FF you are done as the seller protections kick in"? They can`t file cases against sellers?

Re: shipping to chile

If you ship to a FF, once tracking shows DELIVERED, your obligation is over.  Any problems the buyer has, s/he will need to deal with the FF.  If the buyer wants to return the item for any reason, you would provide a shipping label to be shipped from the FF back to you.  It's the buyer's problem for getting the package back to the FF to send back.

Re: shipping to chile

The problem with Mexico and South America is that tracking stops at the US border and if it gets stuck in customs you could be refunding.  Make sure packages are insured and that the insurance is Valid for Chile.  Personally I exclude South America

Re: shipping to chile

Great, thank you! Ironically (because I don`t ship to South or Central America) just got an order from a Chilean buyer who uses FF in Miami area.

Re: shipping to chile

Yeah, there is a lot of misconception about Freight Forwarders, especially if you google it.  But as @disneyshopper  clarified (thanks for the assist!), the buyer protection ends at the FF.  So rather than be afraid of a FF, it is a great way to sell overseas - the buyer takes some risk.

I'll add, it might be worth it on an item that is hundred of dollars profit, but in the case OP laid out - a $35 item - fooling with it probably isn't worthwhile in the long run.

Make sure you pay for signature confirmation when dealing with any FF companies!

Re: shipping to chile

I have to say that there are problems with freight forwarders that some haven't considered.  Buyers can still file claims with PayPal up to 180 days.  You don't really know how that will work out in your favor.  Remember if you lose it's the full amount you'll be refunding.

@lightlily_arts

Gosh, I hate to be disagreeable, but.....

I'm no expert on PP returns, but if memory serves PP requires the buyer to pay for return shipping in order to get a refund.  Where as a SNAD case on eBay the seller pays.  BUT with a FF on eBay it is no different than any domestic transaction, seller pays return shipping from domestic location.  I can't imagine that PP would be able to force a seller to pay for shipping from somewhere in the world when tracking shows it was delivered to a domestic address.

Through the MBG a seller can lose everything too, so what is the difference?  So I'd like to know what are the problems with FF that most haven't considered?

What we often see is that many sellers do not understand the policies as they relate to **bleep**.  Either that or have jingoistic styles or fears and let those dictate their actions.  In reality FF are a great way to sell overseas and as such expand one's selling base and improve profits.

Re: shipping to chile

This issue was raised a few months back and eBay expects you to provide proof that the package was forwarded.

Re: shipping to chile

You have no idea how ingenious scammers who use FF companies can get.  Thank  goodness they are rare.
