return

Hello. Just sold a travel chess set (small portable) to buyer in Puerto Rico who now wants to return it because it is too small. I do not offer returns and ask buyers to ask questions before bidding because of this. The first thing I add in every description is the size of the item. Should I fight this? Thanks

Unfortunately buyers often do not read the description on item.

No returns does not equal no refunds.

Tell your buyer this was sold as no returns, that in this case you will accept a return, that you will send a return label and deduct the return shipping from the charge. That he should request a return and select Remorse as the reason.
When you receive the request send a label. When the item is returned and inspected then refund less shipping.

Hope the buyer is playing you for a discount.

Hello and thanks so much for your input. Pardon my ignorance but how do I send a label? Anna

Tell the buyer to go to his Purchase history for your item.  He can select that he wishes to return the item.  Tell him to select that he changed his mind.  You accept the return, and since this is a remorse return and you have a No Returns policy, ebay will change his account for the shipping label.  He ca print the shipping label using ebay.  A button will be provided.  Once he prints the label, he has 5 days to get it into the mail.  When you receive the item back and it is as described, you refund the buyer his payment (item price + original shipping).

Not to nit pick but that shouldn't be item price ONLY, and not the original shipping?

Could be.  I have always refunded full payment in order to get my FVF credited.  I don't believe you get the FVF credited on a partial refund.

You can't deduct original shipping unless you offer Free Returns, which you don't. So you are on the hook for the outbound postage. And keep your fingers crossed that he doesn't choose "Doesn't match the description" as the reason.

 You can hold back original shipping for remorse returns as long as original shipping was paid for by the buyer.  If the listing had 'free' shipping, the cost can't be withheld.  It has nothing to do with free returns.

That is no longer the case.

I haven’t heard that...where are you seeing that?

When they took away restocking fees and encouraged us to do “Free Returns”, I believe in the last fall seller’s update. When you get a remorse return request and you get the package back, there is no physical way to deduct outbound shipping. The only option is to refund in full. Technically, I suppose you could do a partial thru PayPal but then eBay would push the full refund thru on their side.

If you have your return policy set to NO RETURNS, you do not have to accept a return nor refund if the buyer files a return request for remorse reason such as, item doesn't fit.  However, if the buyer requests a return using one of the NOT AS DESCRIBED reasons you are required to pay the return shipping as well as refund when you get the item back.

Sorry but I don't believe that is correct.  If the seller has charged for shipping and it is a remorse return, there should still be an option for the seller to refund less the original shipping.  This has been discussed in other threads in the past year and I'm certain that sellers who have had returns confirmed that.
