Hello all:
I recently bought a pair of shoes which need to be returned (buyer pays return shipping). I initiated a return through eBay and printed the eBay/PayPal generated return label.
I then messaged the seller and told them that I'd like to return the shoes for a refund and that I will be sending them to the address on the eBay return label, which is different than the address they were originally sent from.
He told me the address on the return label is wrong, that he's tried to update it multiple times on eBay which hasn't worked, and that I need to send the package to the address on the original label when it was sent to me. Seller seems to be a nice person and has great reviews so I want to give him the benefit of the doubt but I have been screwed over by similar situations in the past.
Should I cancel the return through eBay and send it to the address seller is requesting?

No. Ship to the address provided by the return. This is the only way you will retain your buyer protection.
Seller is is responsible for updating their address.

They're saying that if I send the shoes to the address on the return label they'll just be sent back to me and I won't get a refund.
If the label is sent back to you @samsamsam98 you will still get a refund. eBay is only babysitting the address shown on the Return Details page, so if tracking is delivered to another address, that is when YOU WON'T GET A REFUND.

Alright, so the seller claims they have updated the address. Problem is if I cancel the return that currently in progress, I can't initiate another. How can I go about getting a new return label?
1. Look at the updated address on the Return Details page: Does it still match the address on the return label you already printed? (Yes, it still matches.)
2. Click Print Label on the Return Details page to get an updated return label: Does the updated address appear? (No, it's still the same.)
Your seller is lying. Delay another day, and you won't get a refund. Affix the return label now @samsamsam98 then stand in line to get an Acceptance scan.

Option #2, address still the same when I go to reprint the label. I have until the 20th to ship the item back, I guess might as well ship it now.
Yes, as long as you ship to the address on the shipping label, you'll be good.

I'll send it to the post office tomorrow.
I'm assuming "ship the item back by August 20" means as long as I drop it off at the post office before the 20th, I'm good, correct?
Yes.
Be sure they scan the package and get a receipt.

Even if they did updated the address, you just reprinted the same same return label you did originally. You should advise your seller to contact ebay.

Neither eBay nor your seller can change the return address @samsamsam98 after your seller clicks Accept the return and issues the return label. And you certainly cannot get another return label with an updated address because you can't start another return request if you choose to close the one return request you're allowed.
But if your seller is being honest that the return address is wrong, your seller can click refund the buyer now at the bottom right corner on a page similar to this:
Then after you get your refund, you'll gladly ship the return using another label that your seller can buy at http://paypal.com/shipnow or elsewhere. Your seller will not be billed for the label you did not use: It only bills when it is scanned.
