"Warning: Your order may require signature confirmation in order to be protected"

I just went to print a shipping label for a new order and got the following message at the top of the screen:

"Warning: Your order may require signature confirmation in order to be protected if the buyer claims the item did not arrive."

There is a "click here to learn more" link that follows, but goes to a dead page. My post has been auto-deleted twice for including it, apparently.

What does this message mean? I've never seen it before. The item value is well below $750. We are still in the middle of a pandemic where signature confirmation isn't even happening. I can't find any information about this issue and I'm very frustrated.

Packages need tracking to prove delivery, and signature delivery added if the item is over $750.

Re: "Warning: Your order may require signature confirmation in order to be protected"

I'm printing a label through eBay shipping, so tracking is automatically included. The order total is $490. Given that, why I am getting a message saying I might need signature confirmation. Is this just bad programming?

its just a bit of salesmanship aimed at timid buyers who might be inbduced into spending  worthless money on a signature confirmation

its the same kind of message aimed at GSP users

Re: "Warning: Your order may require signature confirmation in order to be protected"

eBay recently changed their policy about Signature Confirmation. The threshold is still $750, but that amount is based on the entire shipment including all items, postage cost and taxes, not on a single item's selling price. So if you're sending a single $500 item, you can ignore it.

Re: "Warning: Your order may require signature confirmation in order to be protected"

I usually pay for it on anything over $250, sometimes less if it's a new buyer or they have a history of leaving feedback signaling they have issues.  Signature confirmation is still available just being handled differently by the USPS employee verifying the receiver's name.

Effective immediately and until further notice, our employees will follow the temporary process below for signature service items. This process applies to all letter carriers:

  • Avoid ringing the doorbell when possible. Knock on the customer’s door. Avoid areas that may be frequently touched when knocking.

  • While maintaining a safe, appropriate distance, employees will request the customer’s first initial and last name.

  • For increased safety, employees will ask the customer to step back a safe distance or close the screen door/door so that they may leave the item in the mail receptacle or appropriate location by the customer door.

  • If there is no response, employees will follow the normal Notice Left process.

If you're going to require Signature Confirmation, you should mention it in your listing Description so buyers know ahead of time.
