lost package

Looking for an answer about how to be refunded for a lost package. Shipped a package 4/10/25 & has been stuck/lost in Chicago since then. FedEx was the carrier and shipped ground economy. Because it was shipped this way & am not a business through FedEx (no account#) a claim cannot be filed through FedEx. This info was confirmed with an eBay rep (we went through the motions on FedEx) as I was on the phone. They/FedEx tells me that my "account" is with eBay and to file a claim through them. eBay has to file the claim & send it to FedEx. eBay has been refusing to file this claim even though there is $100 guarantee when shipped. I am being bounced around like a ping-pong ball. Whom has the answers...not guesses?

Re: lost package

Have you tried to file a claim on the FedEx website?  That is the preferred method over a phone call.

File a Claim | FedEx

Re: lost package

FEDEX Ground Economy is what used to be called FEDEX Smartpost which uses USPS for last mile.

There have been reports that it is not possible to file an insurance claim because neither FEDEX nor USPS will pay a claim.

I would never use any FEDEX Ground Service and will not buy again from most vendors who use FEDEX Ground to ship to me. Every box looks like it has been rolled in the dirt and kicked around. Only exception is my shipments from Ebay supplies which cannot be destroyed by mortal man.

Re: lost package

Hi @vintage_suite . Before we get to the claim, can you answer a few questions?

1. Was this a FedEx Ground Economy shipment?

2. Was the package dropped off at FedEx or at a USPS post office?

3. What does tracking show as the last scan?

Edit to add: If you're up for it, send me a message with the tracking number and I'll take a look to offer you the best advice.

This is not necessarily true. It depends on many factors.

There is coverage for Ground Economy in some situations.

Re: lost package

Yes, have has cheaper FedEx since and have passed. So you are saying there is nothing I can do? Why is eBay not filing the claim to FedEx as they should? FedEx refunds eBay when confirmed pack is gone...

That's not how it works. You would file the claim but we first need to determine if you're eligible.

Re: lost package

If there is coverage for Ground Economy in some situations (clearly package is stuck in Chicago for a month) the please explain the process of whom to file with and where?

Re: lost package

Re: lost package

No need to add tracking info, was last scanned 2-days after departure from my area & tracking shows not moving/stuck in Chicago for over a month now. I wasn't notified for 4-weeks. Every package is covered if lost-no matter how it ships. I just want to know who is filing the claim

Re: lost package

If this was FedEx Ground Economy and you dropped the package off at USPS, it will never make it to the destination and you do not have coverage as USPS will have seized the package. Tracking may show something about "unpaid postage."

If you dropped off with FedEx and are 100% sure about that, then you have up to $100 coverage while it's in FedEx's hands. FedEx handles end-to-end delivery in most situations. Sometimes they hand off to USPS for last leg of delivery and if that happens, all of your coverage ends the second FedEx hands off to USPS.

So, if you qualify for coverage, information on how to file the claim is here. You file direct with FedEx.

Like I said - if you originally dropped this package off at your post office or with your USPS mail carrier, you are out of luck.

Re: lost package

No, I took it to a FedEx drop site (CVS) & they picked it up...tracking went through my facility and stuck in Chicago 2 days after is the last scan-I'm covered

Re: lost package

ALL my packages are scanned B4 I leave any site & I take my packages to the carriers. Otherwise, they sit in a warehouse & it looks as if I printed label & nothing till the carrier scans. During covid, packages were sitting in trucks for 7 days waiting just to leave my state.

OK that's great! Then file the claim following the link in my last post. You may need to register an account at fedex.com before filing.

Re: lost package

Thanks, but as that was done already. Did that & confirmed with an eBay rep (and I tried prior on FedEx) on the phone. After documenting the tracking in FedEx, a popup message shows due to the shipping method, a claim cannot be filed on FedEx.  As stated in first message "Because it was shipped ground & am not a business through FedEx (no account#) a claim cannot be filed through FedEx. Thanks for trying...bye
