false shipping

seller ships item that buyer bought to a different name and address, but somehow gets tracking to show that package was delivered to right name and address...buyer does not get item they bought and can't get a refund  because tracking says it was delivered . .this is outright fraud and ebay should stop them from doing this instead of helping them..it almost happened to me..i was able to get proof from usps and after an appeal i got refund..but ebay still protected the crooked seller..i am going to quit ebay.

If the buyer actually receives something, the buyer can file a "not as described" return within thirty days for a full refund. In fact, any buyer on eBay can file a "not as described" return, provided the buyer is willing and able to return exactly what was received.

If tracking shows delivery but nothing arrives and the buyer can obtain some hard copy documentation (email is not good enough) that says that the package was not delivered to the buyer's address or documentation that shows the weight or size of the package cannot possibly correspond to the ordered item, or the shipping date precedes the order, then the buyer may be able to contact eBay via social media direct message, provide that documentation to eBay and get help with "false tracking".

With "false tracking" if you go through a standard automated "item not received" case, on the other hand, you will lose the case because the seller can provide tracking that appears to show delivery. If you then appeal, you may have some additional options at that point. It appears that eBay has added a new appeal option regarding "delivery to another address", but I do not know how effective that is compared to contacting eBay via social media with documentation and explicitly mentioning "false tracking", which seems to work provided you can obtain the necessary documentation.

If you are unable to get help through eBay, you may have recourse through your payment method, though you should probably exhaust all your eBay options first since once you go through your payment method, eBay will no longer help with that transaction.

In general, you can avoid a lot of headaches by choosing to purchase only from established sellers that have recent and past positive feedback as a seller for selling items in the same category that you intend to buy. If someone is selling a dozen apple watches, but has no feedback, or only has feedback as a buyer, or only has feedback for selling dress patterns or fishing lures (actual examples I have seen), perhaps wait until they have a track record of positive feedback for selling electronics before you buy from them.

sounds like good advice . the only thing i can add is the four times it has happened to me the sellers all had 99.5 and above feedback. the last 100. the first i was able to get refund on appeal by showing screendhot from usps email that showed the tracking number was delivered to a different name and address.. the other three times were after amazon resells that were not mentioned in listings and the day after each were delivered i get told by ebay that sellers has shipped and package will arrived soon.. days later they say package delivered only they are really some other name and address, but tracking shows me.

Yep the fake tracking number scam.   It's the fastest growing scam in the internet.

You don't have to quit eBay outright.  Stick to seller with a good feedback track record.

It is important to look at not just the percentage, but the feedback specifically for selling and the items and prices those items were selling for.

Lots of scammers have feedback for buying, or feedback for selling keychains or private listings that are hidden. When they have built up enough feedback to look credible, then they start to list large quantities of "too good to be true" items, hoping to sell a bunch before the negative feedback starts to show up when the items do not arrive.

A large gap in selling or a drastic change in the type of items sold may also indicate an account that has recently been hijacked by a scammer.

these types of people can slip thru the cracks for a little while but ebay monitors these things, they will self destruct in short order.

In most cases it only has to be delivered to your zip code to be good enough for eBay.  To have it happen that many times you must be purchasing high fraud items from sellers with no feedback for selling such items.  If you paid by credit card, contact your card company.  Just what items were purchased?

Had it happen twice(I wrote about it here). I also just purchased two counterfeit pairs of slides returned both. The second seller tried claiming I returned an empty bag.

Spent hours of wasted time proving the bag was not empty(the post office confirmed it was obviously not empty since they have photos and the weight through various scans). This is becoming a horrible place to buy anything.

this reply has nothing to do with the fake shipping . but one time an ebay seller resold me an item from amazon(listing implied item was coming from seller) and non caring amazon had the nerve to deliver a large empty filmsy plastic bag envelope (no holes in bag and no item)..i did finally get refund
