What was the item that was sold?
There are limitations on categories, as well as weight and price.
We need more info!

They chose it because that's the only option you provided.
I don't think medals qualify for SE.

"I don't think medals qualify for SE."
Nope -- medals are not permitted for the eBay Standard Envelope.
The OP will need to ship via USPS Ground Advantage.

Whoops! Almost forgot USPS First Class Non-Machinable Envelope (not available for sale through eBay, but must be purchased at the USPS counter).

The availability of ESE is determined by the category the item is listed under and your medal was listed in the wrong category for ESE shipment
Yes, medals qualify for ESE but must be listed under coins & paper money-exonumia- medals, yours was listed under collectibles = no ESE

Thank you everyone for your help! I didn’t sell it for much so just put a stamp
on it and sent it. It was a coin!

The problem is with eBay's software. If a shipping option will not be available after the sale, it should not be allowed as a shipping option on a listing.
To make the problem even worse eBay does not provide a full list of categories, including subcategories within those categories, that allow an eBay Standard Envelope to be printed. I asked a question about this over a year ago and still have not received the full list.
