eBay sold me bogus shipping insurance & is actively selling it now.

eBay shipping page shows $100 insurance and is offering additional insurance on UPS Ground Saver shipping .   This is not correct, there is no insurance with this shipping service.   The shipping option under FedEx Ground Saver shipping shows correctly, no insurance and no option to purchase additional insurance.

I used UPS Ground Saver shipping and paid for additional insurance for $400 in coverage.   The item was delivered damaged in a crushed box.  I went to UPS to file a claim who told me that I needed to file with USPS.  USPS online claim system denied filing as there is no insurance attached to the tracking number.   Then I receive a refund from UPS for the insurance premium.

eBay CS is playing stupid, responding to my emails with form letter responses that have nothing to do with this problem.   One CS agent claimed to have left notes of the problem on my account but then supplied me with a bogus phone number to directly contact the department that would take care of this.

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that UPS ground saver insurance is good for $100, but that is only as long as UPS is handling the package.

If the package is handed off to USPS for final delivery, for example, coverage is invalidated.

THAT is the fine print that eBay will not advertise.

That part I had seen.  Very shady of eBay to not disclose that the $100 insurance is basically negated by the terms of shipping.

This is about eBay ghost brokering the optional additional insurance.

This is one of those situations you gotta read.

When you purchase the label you also agree to the terms.

Ebay gives you a link to the terms.

It's important to understand what you are using.

I refuse to use Ebay labels and they place a hold on my money to be released because they have already fee'd me to death on my sale....and I still pay for shipping the item out on my sale.....PS Ebay notion that if I buy Ebay labels it gets updated quicker is complete garbage.....They are the same labels from the same companies Ebays gets huge discounts on and gets updated because we still have to input a tracking #.....Shady company

Re: eBay sold me bogus shipping insurance & is actively selling it now.

This is not regarding the $100 insurance included with the label.  This is about the "eBay recommended additional insurance"  that I'd purchased for an additional charge.  That additional charge is an insurance premium.  Paying the additional charge books the stated insurance  coverage at the additional amount to cover the total amount of the item to be shipped.  This is where eBay failed.  eBay attempted to purchase additional insurance from UPS but these funds were refused and returned.  UPS has formally stated that no additional insurance is or has been available on that level of shipping.  This is eBay's error, I wouldn't have used that shipping had eBay not offered the insurance to cover the price of the item.  This is aka Ghost Brokering.
